it’s unsettling how many USians seem to think CECOT is unlike that prison your uncle works at in Colorado or Virginia or California or Alabama…

humiliation, deprivation, isolation, sexual violence…constant torture inflicted on people who both have & have not committed harm—that’s…prison.

‘But it’s my idea!!!’ the point is to ask the experts what would make the game terrific and then go towards that not to ask the law of averages what is the average of all games

The core of any piece of art is about what a human wants to say to another human about the experience of being alive; if you are asking a predictive text machine about that there is literally no point in anyone making what was spat out because ML doesn’t want to say anything specifically

When presented with the stupid unoriginal lore ideas equivalent to JKR raiding Worst Witch and Dahl fairytales but machine made the team will still have to actually fix it, make it fun, and grapple with the fact at the core of it the idea was stale, stolen & synthetic

haven't played E33 yet, but losing its Indie GOTY for AI usage during dev is 100% deserved in the same way the shitfest Larian is going through is deserved. it's not about how or how much they used it, there's a slippery slope here that warrants drawing a hard line.

I also say this with only affection in my heart: I've only been teaching college for about 6 years, but I'm starting to believe that even if I do this for the rest of my life, the sheer mind-blowing Audacity of some students will be a constant factor yet will always find new ways to be surprising
My students have known since the first day of class, in September, that the final was due today at 5 pm EST. I have shared this info regularly. It’s on Canvas. It’s not a surprise. I just got an email that put me through the roof. I love these kids but sometimes I am tested.

Weapons, mistyped as Wounds below, would be in my top three. Weapons has perfect execution in using an unusual structure. But what sealed it for me is how it remained serious despite also deploying dark humor, and how that humor allowed the most shocking scene to be both horrifying and absurdist.
Still thinking about it, but my best films of the year would include The Assessment, Wounds, Bring Her Back, Eddington, Eephus, The Brutalist, The Ballad of Wallis Island, The Baltimorons, Sovereign, and Sinners. Not yet seen The Secret Agent, Sentimental Value, Train Dreams, or No Other Choice. 1/?

Larian defending itself saying nothing genAI is in their games, it's used for "exploration" & concept art... how do they not understand that is still a reliquishing of creativity, an abandonment of originality, a disdain for intention. the feeling of betrayal is justified and the outrage is deserved

Sometimes people are like "aren't you worried about the kids and their nonsensical new brainrot memes"

But like, the thing is, I can still spot a member of my internet generation by how they respond to "badger badger badger badger"

Playing with language and rhythm is fun, it'll be fine!
One of the things we've enjoyed the most about the six-seven phenomenon is the way it comes with a gesture, which we've also seen represented in emoji form as:
🫴 six-seven 🫳
“6-7” belongs in the dictionary, actually

People keep wondering why they're going after Venezuela. It's because they want to do regime change and control its oil, then use a big tract of land there to keep a tax free "network state" that looks like Dubai but operates like Rhodesia. They are saying this out loud! Believe them!

having spent the past year and a half fighting back against this boring ass non-color that covered every inch of the house we bought, I feel deeply, personally attacked by this meaningless decision
Pantone’s 2026 color of the year is technically not a color at all — meet Cloud Dancer, the first-ever white shade to receive the designation from the world’s color authority.
Pantone makes a surprising choice for its 2026 color of the year
We did not see that coming.

tbh if improved access for disabled people means it's also easier for abled people to take advantage, then so be it. as long as they aren't also making things *harder* for the people who do need it, then letting some rule-breakers off the hook for the sake of better accessibilty is 100% worth it
Balancing "no person with a disability should be denied accommodations" with "it's important to discourage non-disabled people from pretending to be disabled to take advantage of these accommodations" is really difficult and I don't have a great answer for what anyone should do about it.
