this year I put one foot in front of the other, and only look one step ahead, because if i look too far ahead a monster is there and if i look it in the face too soon im not prepared enough to face it. so. one step only each time, and really look at the step?? school of foddy

I didn‘t enjoy Stranger Things as much as to be a big fan, but I am getting a little bit annoyed by how far from Spielberg it has gone into King, and how far it has gone from gentle subtext into constant and repeated plot information with no stage business to soften it

Once @quinnae.com and I were on a panel together and she described the work as being like getting David to emerge from a smooth block of marble. it goes chip by chip—and you may not see the work completed. OBAA to me is a visualization of that idea. You can abandon the work but the work never ends.

happy Hogmanay everyone. I tried my best this year and I hope to try my best next year too. I hope that I made something you enjoyed or even loved and I will try again next year too!

It's the Suzie Izzard bit about Americans renovating things to look how they did "over FIFTY years ago!", but with English men who are like, "over FIFTY miles away"

it’s always very funny to me when a man with a very posh english accent goes on a ‘journey’ to ‘discover the ancient archeology of the Picts’ mate you drove fifteen minutes over the border and looked at a rock my grandma has had in her garden all her life

something that bothers me is that game markets that target like 50 & 60 plus demographics (the people with the MOST disposable income who are buying tank, lifestyle and farm style sims like crazy bc they’re the only games that market to them) have been completely abandoned on the innovation front

some of the US and UK opinions on Italian food are dated dependent on when italian immigrants landed there which is super interesting, like the chicken parmo in Middlesbrough is an italian immigrant food no Italian would happily claim (but it’s delicious)
omg italians used to cook pasta "for hours" until "very soft"?? cooking pasta firmly wasn't common until mid 1800s, and "al dente" appears only after WW1?? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Al_dente

blubbing watching judi dench realise she is, fully historically speaking, Shakespearean royalty again. she named an oak tree after him and then learned he is basically family to her. the whole thing is so nuts

Instead, could I make a book recommendation? NEON NOIR by Woody Haut is the central text of all this. I’d rather you read the experts instead of a 21 year old idiot
as a MASSIVE Hammett and Chandler fan, McBain, all that…. can I read your dissertation??

is An Inspector Calls the platonic form of all of these ??
Christie’s mysteries were always very much like ‘you already know all of these rich people in the room are guilty of cruelty but the court jester will make at least one of them pay’ but seeing Class be applied to US detective stuff in this form is very fun for me personally

If you’ve read my book you’ll know it took Blendo a good ten years to culminate in Skin Deep & I think about having ten years of investment for it to marinate and prototype into existence, even something the press describes as ‘small’ or ‘indie’ and not ‘AAA’ www.eurogamer.net/games-of-202...
Skin Deep was this year's reminder that it's a privilege to recognise a developer's handwriting
Skin Deep was one of the great games of 2025 - here's why.
