I got over it, and I’m proud of my work, but my heart is scarred by all the folks—like me— who are told we’re good enough to crunch and make BAFTA-winning, DICE-winning games, but not anything else. It sucks!

So good on ya, Larian

Not to be Too Spicy On Main, but I was reminded of the time a publisher wanted me to write a tie-in comic for a game, only for someone at my own studio to mock the comics I’d done up til then (My Little Pony + Godzilla), so the publisher withdrew the offer

Game writers are treated this way a lot.

Honestly, it was extremely heartwarming to see Larian champion their writers and creatives in the wake of the HBO adaptation news yesterday. There are few studios that would do the same

glad that Mandelson has been removed but it remains to ask: why aren’t we absolutely excoriating Farage for being in these files? This is what our next PM could be? A Bannon/Thiel stooge?

Over in the EU they're doing sensible policy - eg stopping the infinite scrolling which promotes compulsive behaviour - rather than facile populist measures like banning stuff.

I was a little puzzled about what was happening on my fashion instagram until I suddenly realised that people have started dressing like the groove is in the heart video and suddenly everything made sense - its the 90s but its the 60s now. again

For work this week I listened to all of Shodan’s VO from 1 & 2 and had a great time so sometimes working in games is somewhat like what you’d be doing if you were a student with fast internet in the 2000s

I have to prevent myself from posting like 6 provocative/angry/anti-corpo posts maybe every day on here and one still sneaks through but you should all know I’m so proud of the posts I write out and delete and how very incisive they are. And then I post a stupid gif

most predictions people make reflect their own interests in one way or another. even ones i've made. the future is very much unwritten. but especially: being in any sort of institutional position in a time of extreme upheaval makes it very likely for one to be uniquely bad at reading the moment

a lot of videogames are really trying to exclude women with huge racks from representation now. it used to be that huge bazongas in games were just for men to ogle, but tbh as long as they are realistic and get something interesting to do us folks with the massive thrupnys would feel truly included

I love the construction of narrative more now than when I was a pure writer, ive got really close to the mechanical parts and become somewhat of a little mechanic who lives in the basement trying to get the car to work, and honestly sometimes I forget I ever wrote one word for a living

I don't say this enough: narrative design is just so neat. Coolest job. Nothing else like it. Happy to immerse myself in tangling and untangling story logic, constraints, team dynamics and player experience. The conditions lately are tough, but the work is still the best.

i don't think i realised how much i was missing this style of writing. something which is both very serious and thoughtful, engaging with the complexities of the subject and the contingent nature of any actual gaming experience... and also absolutely trying to fit a joke into any spare corner.
We're launching a website.

new blog post about: makin' it easier to integrate elaborate (or not) contextual character animation stuff into gameplay in @sleightofhand.game. Like all the best shit, this is not so much technically impressive as workflowily excellent.

oh I ‘deserve’ this??? by whose measure. is it capitalism speaking. is capitalism in the room now talking about who does and does not deserve to be treated well
the concept of ‘deserving’ things has ruined the world. when people say stuff like ‘well deserved‘ or ‘you deserve a break’ etc it makes it seem like you passed a purity test or some rancid productivity test when every human at baseline should never have to beg for basic respect or kindness
