🧠 The Lipid #Brain Atlas is out now! If you think #lipids are boring and membranes are all the same, prepare to be surprised. Led by @lucafusarbassini.bsky.social with Giovanni D'Angelo's lab, we mapped membrane lipids in the mouse brain at high resolution.

Out today in @nature.com: Together with the Honigmann, Shevchenko, Drobot and Hof labs, we present a general workflow for imaging the localization and transport of individual lipids in cells and mapping their metabolism.

How are human brain regions connected? Are the connecting axons thicker and more myelinated the longer these connecting fibers are?

In our recent paper we find that indeed, they are! Read the skeetorial below ⬇️⬇️⬇️

Can 2–4 hours of intense exercise really deplete brain myelin by nearly a third? Myelin water fraction isn’t the same as myelin, and this bold claim needs far more evidence. (Good thing marathon runners don’t seem to suffer cognitive issues!)
In this study from Ramos-Cabrer, Cabrera-Zubizarreta et al., the analysis of surrogate measures suggests that #myelin content is significantly reduced after #exercise, but fully recovered within two months.

The STRIPAK complex is required for radial sorting and laminin receptor expression in Schwann cells
The STRIPAK complex is required for radial sorting and laminin receptor expression in Schwann cells
YAP/TAZ-mediated gene transcription is necessary for Schwann cell laminin receptor expression and differentiation. Weaver et al. use transgenic mouse models to show that the STRIPAK complex is required to regulate YAP/TAZ and facilitate radial sorting.…

Do women exhibit less cognitive decline because they can better maintain myelin due to Plp expression from the silent X chromosome?
Women tend to age better cognitively than men, but why? This cool new study finds aging reactivates genes on the inactive X chromosome in the female hippocampus. This shift could contribute to cognitive resilience, with the myelin gene Plp1 playing a major role.

Not sure what mental short circuit made me search for myelin on spotify, but I’m so glad I did. What I found reignited my old love for vinyl and garage punk and took me back to my student days when I had a band like this - ‚The Myelin Sheaths’ to me sound like a beautiful serendipity of fate.
