Yeah my job is pretty cool. My uniform is a tactical vest that’s two sizes too small and a gaiter I bought in a gas station. They send me to sneak into schools to kidnap little kids because people got mad about having to press 1 for English. The president had to warn everyone to stop spitting on me.

This is a battle that has been going on ever since Google came out with Google Translate. Machine translation has no nuance, no humanity, no creativity. Like AI prose, in fact. We see it all the time in subtitles.
As a translator and writer, I need authors to be standing in solidarity with translators.
I will boycott and call out authors who support AI translation of literary works in any capacity.

Rather than comparing what's happening in the US to 1930's Germany, maybe compare it to what's happening in Turkey right now. Duly-elected president, previously stable(ish) democracy sliding into autocracy & kleptocracy, with a strong fundamentalist streak. There's a reason trump likes erdogan.

I've seen a lot of stuff over the past days "proving" that the election was stolen. This is a trap. What are we? MAGA? We are where we are today. We can't win over the proverbial base. ALL our efforts should go towards standing up for the vulnerable and finding people to make common cause with.

A small thing but worth doing.
If you are a cis person *please* take 2 minutes to do this. Trans people with non-updated gender markers, historical gender marker changes, and X markers are terrified to travel right now; rolling back this policy would mean a lot.
Public comment is now open for passport gender marker changes.
You can go here to go to each of the three proposed passport rules, and submit comment.
My suggestion: be unique, argue for trans-inclusive policies, against the constitutionality of the changes, etc.
