Say hello to a new subway map! 🗺️

Today, the MTA unveiled a new subway diagram that provides riders with essential travel information in an easily readable, bright, and orderly manner.

Forget the bike lanes, drivers need to get serious about the driver-on-driver crime in their own community – box-blocking in Midtown is out of control! And DOT/NYPD has no strategy beyond spending tons of money to hire poorly paid Bangladeshi immigrants to physically place their bodies in the way?

I mean, yes, for sure. But the shuttering of schools for a year or longer is still by far the biggest factor and the one we most needed to grapple with because it was a (very bad) choice. The trauma was real and awful but it obviously was not the result of policy or human choices.
Every time Covid and learning loss hits the news, people act like the only factor is folk staying home and learning online, rather than… Living through a global mass death event.

Good evening. We estimate that between 4.2 and 7.6 million people turned out for the No Kings Day demonstrations held around the country on Saturday. This makes Oct 18 very likely the biggest single-day U.S. protest event since 1970. www.gelliottmorris.com/p/second-no-...

Two full days (with an undefined end time) seems like an unnecessarily lengthy upgrade outage given Metrocard machines are nearly extinct. Most companies complete this kind of work overnight.

Paris has its problems but OMG the frequency of the Métro blows us out of the water. We were there Saturday through Wednesday and waited 2 minutes on average. Longest wait was 4.

In terms of direct threat to human life, I'm coming around more and more to this view. Other appointees pose a lot of danger, but RFK Jr has by far the highest potential for directly causing death. It's very grim.
RFK Jr. is the most dangerous Trump appointee. An utterly dangerous, unqualified, reckless conspiracy theorist who will kill children and elders with his anti vaccine conspiracies. The fact he's the head of Health and Human Services just shows how little Trump cares about any of us.

One thing we really need Mayor Mamdani to do is to reform the alphabet soup of agencies needed to build basic infrastructure. Between DOT and DDC alone there's a whole lot of process that means it can take forever to build stuff.
I know painting sidewalks and bike lanes get them done quickly and cheaply. But at some point I'd like to see the city actually rebuild the streets with real sidewalks and protected bike lanes made of concrete and asphalt.

NYC sidewalks used to be wider. We cut them back for cars.
The DOT is planning to install "Super Sidewalks" along the busiest parts of the Canal Street corridor east of Broadway, along with a new westbound bike lane to join the existing eastbound lane on Grand Street.

Well stated. Denouncing political violence is, on its face, the right/only thing to do. But it's even more imperative to reject political violence in all forms at this specific moment because the fascists will much more willingly weaponize it.
It’s not simply important to denounce political violence because it looks bad not to. It’s the right thing to do on the merits. Even more specifically to this moment it’s important because the forces of fascism are inherently better at political violence than the forces of civic democracy.

Maybe unpopular take but I think "during COVID" is fine!
Death data show a clear acute phase from spring 2020 until spring 2022. Since then deaths have steadily trended downward and this winter fell below flu deaths. You can take COVID seriously and still talk about the worst of it in the past tense
