Tuesday got off to a frigid start with temperatures below zero and wind chills well below zero.

<div id="contentrecs"><p>CHICAGO — Brrr, it’s cold outside! But that doesn’t mean your outdoor adventures in the city must come to an end. </p><p>Even in the middle of winter, you can ride bikes, take nature walks and go on fun runs with local outdoor community groups to keep warm. The plane’s landing gear hit the animal, according to United Airlines.</p><p>The plane was a Boeing 737 MAX 9 that had 167 passengers and six crew members. A different plane took the passengers to Phoenix later Sunday afternoon, a United spokesperson said.</p><p>The Federal Aviation Administration is currently investigating the incident. Neither United nor the Federal Aviation Administration responded to questions about the coyote’s condition.</p><aside class="scaip scaip-1"><style>@media ( min-width: 300px ){.newspack_global_ad.scaip-1{min-height: 100px;}}@media ( min-width: 320px ){.newspack_global_ad.scaip-1{min-height: 100px;}}@media ( min-width: 728px ){.newspack_global_ad.scaip-1{min-height: 90px;}}@media ( min-width: 970px ){.newspack_global_ad.scaip-1{min-height: 90px;}}</style> <div class="newspack_global_ad scaip-1 fixed-height"> <!-- /22997378029/newspack-in-article-2-6511c2970b70d --><div id="div-gpt-ad-f678132859-0"></div> </div> </aside><p>Sunday was not Chicago’s only strange coyote encounter of the week.</p><p>On Monday morning, police responded to reports of a <a data-wpel-link="internal" href="https://blockclubchicago.org/2025/01/13/viral-video-shows-coyote-being-rescued-from-humboldt-park-aldi/">coyote stuck inside a Humboldt Park Aldi</a>. </p><p>A <a data-wpel-link="external" href="https://x.com/EddieBarstool/status/1878869315648188647" rel="noreferrer noopener external" target="_blank">video of the incident shared widely on social media</a> shows two officers standing in a refrigerated section of the store with a broom and dustpan as they move inventory to try to secure the animal. </p><p>One of the officers then reaches into the refrigerator and grabs the coyote’s tail. The officer pulls on it until the animal is fully removed, but it is then seen immediately leaping back into the refrigerated section, according to the video.</p><p>Animal Care and Control officers were also on the scene, and eventually “safely removed the coyote,” a police spokesperson said in an email. No injuries were reported. The coyote was taken to <a data-wpel-link="external" href="https://flintcreekwildlife.org" rel="external noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Flint Creek Wildlife Rehabilitation</a>. </p><p>Flint Creek also took in the coyote that was <a data-wpel-link="external" href="https://flintcreekwildlife.org/letter-to-animal-planet-follow-up-to-quiznos-coyote/" rel="external noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">captured inside a Downtown Quiznos sandwich shop</a> in April 2007. In a <a data-wpel-link="external" href="https://www.facebook.com/flintcreek/" rel="external noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">recent social media post,</a> Flint Creek said the Quiznos coyote was eventually released.</p><p>Chicago police and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources a<a data-wpel-link="internal" href="https://blockclubchicago.org/2025/01/14/coyote-beating-death-under-investigation-in-mount-greenwood/">re also investigating the stomping death of a coyote</a> by three teenagers in Mount Greenwood, Ald. Matt O’Shea (19th) said. </p><p>Peak coyote mating season approaches in February.
