The last 24 hours I lurked on Twitter more than anytime since I quit it, and one thing dawned on me - I think there are a lot of libs who actually just enjoy "the fight" .. there is something cathartic about dunking or replying to a conservative making a dumb point, and you obviously lose that here

Adam Corolla is the textbook example of why divorce protections are important for nonworking spouses - he used to brag routinely on his show about how his wife didn't have to work because he earned so much. It was a point of pride for him that she quit her job when they got married.
They used to wiretap your phones to collect this kind of information from you but now you pay for a Bluecheck and post it yourself

The argument I'm sympathetic towards for bashing Democrats right now is that its clear they won't, as currently constituted, nuke the filibuster when they get the next trifecta. And if you think this is the case, then there is a real argument for accelerationism and wishing Republicans did it now

Democrats also have less leverage now since the GOP has a trifecta. At least Republicans controlled the House in 2013.
All the tweets I’m seeing tonight from angry liberals are extremely similar to the backlash tweets against Republican leaders who reopened government in 2013 after failing to force Obama to repeal the ACA.
The typical way to force changes in policy is to win elections. Democrats lost a bunch.

She literally voted against the amendment to extend the ACA subsidies lol
A lot of happy Republican senators tonight. Susan Collins vows there will be a real effort to extend some ACA subsidies, but also said the ACA is not affordable….

Unbelievable that he came in with the most hype since LeBron and is exceeding expectations
He is inevitable. Victor Wembanyama is the one.

It is funny we are just returning to the level of Obamacare subsidies Obama thought was sufficient and most people will hate the GOP for how unaffordable that is.

I love when podcast bros tell me that voters just hate the Powers That Be and all Trump does is pardon the richest and most powerful people who commit crimes and voters just go MOAR please
NEW: Trump pardons the husband of GOP Rep. Diana Harshbarger.
Bob Harshbarger pleaded guilty to fraud & distributing kidney drugs from China that weren't FDA approved.
His wife was an officer in the company, but claimed she wasn't involved.
The WH says the pardon was not related to his last name

Okay but these geniuses also think gutting the ACA will be good politically and have thought gutting SNAP was going to be good for them too

Alot of hubris from Collins here but she magically wins every election so maybe it won't matter
UPDATE: The Senate votes 53-47 to shoot down the Baldwin amendment to extend ACA funds for 1 year. A party-line vote with every Republican rejecting it.
An important vote in this series: Tammy Baldwin’s proposal to extend ACA expiring funds for 1 year. It’s structured as a motion to table (i.e. scrap it from the amendment tree). But it’ll show the appetite (or lack thereof) in the Senate to address this issue.

Susan Collins and Murk voting against this is kind of funny tbh
The Senate has rejected a plan from Sen. Tammy Baldwin D-WI to extend the expiring Obamacare health insurance subsidies for 1 year. Party line vote.

Sorry guys I do not think this messaging is going to work for the 2026 midterms. I'm as skeptical and cynical of American voters as anyone but I think median voter is not dense enough to blame Democrats for their premiums spiking 200% while Trump and Republicans say THIS type of stuff.
Trump: "I want the money to go into an account for people where they buy their own health insurance. It's so good. The insurance will be better. It'll cost less. Everybody is gonna be happy. They're gonna feel like entrepreneurs. They're actually able to go out & negotiate their own insurance"

I find this stuff really annoying. If your going to joke that's fine but it should be obvious that your doing a parody.
If you’re seeing this viral claim that Trump is working on 15-year car loans, it’s fake.

I need people to take a breath and take a step back if they believe this is true of how normie types are going to respond to this a year from now, or if they want to manifest this narrative to make them respond that way.
No one is really going to pay attention to the ACA subsidy vote because what matters is Democrats had leverage, people saw them use it, and people saw them give it away

The tea party protests were basically fake but Republican primary voters actually did revolt against their establishment in a way that Democratic voters have yet to do in any meaningful way.
I laugh when progressives wish the Democrats had their own Tea Party to take over the Democratic Party for the people because the Tea Party was a corporate astroturf op. It had nothing to do with the people. (same with MAGA)

We live in a land of people for whom every game of tic tac toe is a bewildering and unpredictable adventure.
This is such a bizarre talking point; I've thankfully never had to use most of the types of insurance that I have for me and my family
This is a good excuse to share my WSJ letter to the editor explaining that "not filing a claim doesn’t mean you didn’t need insurance" www.wsj.com/opinion/the-...

The ACA cuts happened in the reconciliation bill in July, every single Democrat voted against it and they got 3 detectors so Vance had to break the tie, and the Dems just shut down the government for 40 days to try and get them to undo it, it is absolutely deranged to blame this on “Democrats”
Yes - this is a loss because Democrats have now signed on to ACA cuts as a complicit party and once again made it a less effective issue for the mid terms
From that perspective, this would be a failure, right? Because the Dems lose the narrative that they did everything to stand in the way of ACA cuts.

My most moderate opinion on here is that there is no moral equivalence between someone who does something bad and somebody who (incompetently or not) fails to prevent them from doing that.

Good way to think about who will get the blame for premiums going up - who did voters blame for the "immigration mess" after Republicans killed Biden-supported immigration reform in Congress?

Guys voters are not going to blame Democrats for the ACA premium hikes lol, this is just not how the average person thinks. They WOULD have give Republicans and Trump credit if premiums didn't go up though.

If Republicans caved and extended the ACA subsidies, I'm not sure how that would have stopped Trump from doing the actual authoritarian stuff...? Making Trump more popular by letting him "save" the ACA would probably have strengthened him politically with median voters.
In response to this claim that the "strategy didn't work."
The people were on our side. We were building momentum to help save our democracy. We could have won - the premium increase notices were just starting.
And giving in now will embolden him. Things will likely get worse.
