Saying “reading books in public is performative” is a very quick and simple way to communicate to me that you are a stupid little pig I do not need to listen to and in that sense I appreciate it

i think this is key. taking the deal would amount to taking the blame. it would turn a clear political victory into an unambiguous defeat.
If the Dems blink after all of this, for a deal that all but ensures no ACA subsidies in 2026 anyway, then what was the purpose of letting the shutdown go for 40 days in the first place?

One of the talking points I keep seeing from Democrats is that part of the deal is that it will "ensure federal workers receive back pay" but that's the existing law!
That's not something you've won in negotiations. That's just the letter of the law. You don't get to claim that as a win.

agreeing to make a terrible deal while your main opponent is quite literally being boo'd on live tv by an entire stadium of people is the kind of political instinct you'd normally only find in a 3 week old dead goldfish

If the Dems go for this then THEY will be the ones who raised millions of people’s health insurance premiums, not the Republicans. It is that simple.

This is not a deal, it’s a surrender to Trump. Senate Democrats should reject this plan that does nothing to prevent healthcare premiums from skyrocketing for millions of Americans. I’ll be a HELL NO in the House.

I genuinely hate Chuck Schumer more than I hate Trump. Trump is far more evil and is totally irredeemable but Schumer is one of the most pathetic and loathsome worms to ever breathe air, and on top of that, in his incompetence, he regularly HELPS the irredeemably evil.

awesome how everyone sees this as the Trump shutdown, how his popularity is tanking as more republicans lose their SNAP benefits and see their insurance premiums, and the Democrats come through to rescue him from this downturn in public support, to the total detriment of their new political cache.

you'll soon understand what makes Chuck Schumer such a legendary politician when he's on tv explaining why his Democrats Voluntarily Eat Shit plan was their "best chance at not eating shit" with shit all over him and he's STILL got that smug look on his face. generational talent
