I make comics. Usually they're scary.

My book LITTLE VISITOR & OTHER ABDUCTIONS is available now from Oni Press.

I did a long in depth interview with Kris Bertin, writer of the great Hobtown series, about my new book, what compels me about aliens, working with the unknown, and of course: day jobs.

Give it a read,
@hobtown.bsky.social asks some great questions!

There’s a line in The Zone of Interest that I think about often in relation to the atrocities being casually committed all around us every day:

“Heil Hitler, et cetera.”

I saw some posts bemoaning writers using difficult/obscure/baroque/etc. language and I would argue that has always been an overly simplistic critique and that it will only become more useless as the general public slides ever deeper into illiteracy.

Saw a Letterboxd review complaining that the Nirvanna the Band guys didn’t really jump off the CN tower. Who cares!

After I finish this comic I'm going to write a novel. Okay thanks

I've seen some AI video clips that have a genuinely funny or interesting idea behind them but the fact that they weren't actually made by a human sucks every ounce of potential joy out of it like opening the emergency exit door on an airplane mid-flight.

Rewatching S4 of The Wire and I forgot about this Deadwood cameo which practically breaks the 4th wall. I think this is the closest thing to a wink at the audience in the entire series.

Yes!! I’m sure this will solve the problem of modern film locations all looking like flimsy animated billboards floating behind the actors! There’s no other solution.

Pretty confident I will never see an Emerald Fennell movie. More like Amethsyt Cardomom IMO!

Just finished When the Wolf Comes Home by Nat Cassidy. I find most contemporary horror novel protagonists irritating so you can imagine my trepidation when I realized this one starred an improv comedian.

But this was a really solid read. Thrilling, effectively emotional, and genuinely grisly.

My last-ever page of comic art for DC Comics; hence, the 'farewell' signature at the bottom left. It was nice while it lasted.

PS: I didn't indicate the captions as framed. I deliberately placed them so the first two would just sit as text—in air, in fire—the last two reversed (white-on-black).

Ending this operation is not enough.

We need justice and accountability. That starts with independent investigations into the murders of Renee Good and Alex Pretti, economic restitution for businesses impacted, abolishing ICE, and the impeachment of Kristi Noem.

It’s nice to know that as AI imagery continues to dominate our lives I still have thousands of pages of Rumiko Takahashi comics I’ve never read.

I really wish I could agree with the people acting like AI video still looks as bad as it did in 2023, but at this point I think it's safe to say that it will be almost impossible to distinguish from real video within like a year. Immensely depressing.
