I have always said it, I will continue to say it, we are limiting the productive potential of millions of freaks by demanding they earn a wage to survive instead of enabling them to do whatever thing their brain is broken for

One reason it took me so long to write this @coyotemedia.org essay is I kept trying to find a positive, productive note to end on. All I really got is “fund the goddamn bus.” www.coyotemedia.org/in-which-we-...

I don’t want to be assaulted by a driver, nor surveilled by cat-killing robot cars. Is this really the best we can do?

A big hangup with AV companies in general is that we have existing technologies that are dramatically safer, better for the environment, and move more people at lower price points. It's frustrating to see investment in AVs at the expense of these, as that helps lock in car-centric infrastructure

Call to action (erm, 📨email to action): Mayor Lurie needs to hear your desire for a robust and fully funded Muni _this week_. Background follows.

Next November, with a little luck, there will be two measures on your ballot to fund transit. Both have to pass for Muni to not cut up to 50% of service.

@sfgov.sf.gov could fix this by fully funding our transit system instead of cutting it

this will only make our lives much more difficult in the future

muni has reached record on time performance and rider satisfaction

defund sfpd, fund the bus, fund our schools, fund affordable housing
After a series of service cuts this year, the SF Municipal Transit Agency is taking the axe to every other one of its departments across the board, which could mean more bus shelters in disrepair, and repair backlogs for buses that result in service impacts. buff.ly/jdWvkLz

The maddening thing is that we know EXACTLY how to prevent this. Yes, kids should get vaccinated, test, stay home when sick, mask as much as possible.

But even without any of that: Better ventilation and filtration in schools can MASSIVELY reduce viral spread, for all sorts of respiratory diseases.

Leftists have long been concerned, with good reason, that moderate liberals' sympathy for policing-first policies indicates a compromised stance toward authoritarianism. Compliance over structural social reform. Lurie's refusal to address the national situation hasn't calmed those concerns.

Not every car is used to kill but they still killed twice as many Americans as guns did last year.

Regulate cars.

the core idea that can radicalize people is so simple:

there is enough.

there is enough food to feed everyone. enough resources to house everyone. money and technology and medicine to stop the suffering of people around the globe.

once you accept that there's only one question:

why don't we?

Regular reminder that California has an open-source fare payment tech option. I've used it in Monterey and Salinas and it works instantly and perfectly. It's been getting passed over by large agencies for not being featureful enough, but a little investment could rid us of Cubic forever.
