I wrote liner notes for the vinyl reissue of Sally Shapiro's classic debut, Disco Romance. Check it out! It was an honor to be chosen by a band I love so much.

having become a young adult in the late 80s I feel pretty well qualified to say that independent music is more vital now than it’s ever been, and that the opportunities for creativity and community within it are endless
The world may suck right now but the world of independent music is amazing. Buy something on bandcamp and escape for a second

I liked "Die My Love" but I know that a lot of people are going to hate it. It's a stunning but complicated picture.

maybe it’s only another X wave but the upswing of screenshots of news stories with no link or byline or source (no alt text)… or posting photojournalists’ work w/o attribution or a link… just take 30 seconds before posting to tell us where it’s from. and if you don’t know why are you posting it??

I cannot emphasize enough how much Zohran Mamdani's campaign was very much about a platform focused on accountability, but also about having fun, fostering genuine connections with its citizens, and reminding people why they moved to New York City and should still want to live there

virtue signalling is good actually
Performative decency is actually *so* important for this reason.

It tricks the 10% of ghouls into thinking that there are only 1% of ghouls.

And it makes the 30% of people that don't care one way or another follow the mostly decent crowd

I read this and immediately thought “well that would actually be awesome because then Marty can go back to the 90s where he probably had a really awesome time as a teenager” and then I was like oh wait his PARENTS would have been teenagers in the 90s and then I just sat here for like 45 minutes

This is a really hard day and I want to just add as WIRED's politics editor -- WIRED's politics reporting isn't going anywhere. We are very much here and won't stop.

Please continue to read and support us - canceling your subscription to WIRED is not standing in solidarity with our journalists.
The key thing to watch here: they fired a Wired political reporter. That’s the title doing the most effective, pointed work. Teen Vogue’s stuff was culturally impactful, but less focused on investigating the administration. Within the Condé portfolio, Wired and the New Yorker are the canaries.
New: Conde Nast fired four employees who were among a group that confronted the company's head of human resources on Wednesday over the decision to fold Teen Vogue into Vogue/recent cuts. Employees who were fired included journalists from the New Yorker, Wired, and Bon Appétit.

NEW: The US Army website for its bases in Bavaria, Germany told its soldiers and employees that it might need to obtain free food from the German government during the US government shutdown.

The Army later altered publication to remove a list of food banks, but we have the original text here:
US Army Tells Soldiers to Go to German Food Bank, Then Deletes It
The initial 'Shutdown Guidance' for the US Army Garrison Bavaria included instructions to go to German food banks.
