Casual reminder that the myth of “pulling yourself up by your bootstraps” is a cruel hoax designed to convince poor people from all walks of life that the injustices they face are a result of their own actions, rather than an oppressive system rigged against them.

When I was a kid my mom kindly freed me from the “starving children across the world” clean plate club pressure by explaining to me that most famines are political in origin.
Anyway, I think about that a lot lately.

I feel dividing music listenership into "people who exclusively listen to streaming services" and "people who exclusively listen to physical media" is overlooking the important transitional category of "people who exclusively listen to shitty overcompressed MP3s they pirated on LimeWire in 2002".

Hopefully the next director of the BBC will take note of the fact that you can never ever capitulate enough to satisfy these right-wing maniacs, eventually they will demand your head regardless of how many other people you threw under the bus for them. I won't hold my breath though.

Records of Hawaii Marines from November, 1942. Less than one year since Pearl Harbor. Their time is spent training the new defense battalions, and inspecting new facilities in places like then-NAS Kaneohe. Still made time at 1000 to celebrate the birthday.

Unsolicited writing advice, no. 430: Read. Read widely. Read what you love, and what you don't. Read what you know, and what you don't yet know. The wider your reading, the better your chance of avoiding the limitations of being influenced by only one author, one genre, one culture, one time.

Gonna be more honest with everyone in my life by renaming my depression “Nothing."
“What’s wrong?"
“Nothing."
“What did you get up to this weekend?"
“Whole lotta Nothing."
“How’s your novel coming?"
“Nothing’s stopping me now."

Denoisers are usually seen as very clinical editing tools but I like the way they work on pads in place of a typical filter, especially after you add reverb+delay back in afterwards and how the "artifacts" interact with them. Doing EQ/filter preprocessing before the denoiser also sounds cool.
