Jason Stanley, 6 months after moving to Canada, here scolds Canadians for still vacationing in the US/going to US universities, calls such Canadians "traitorous," and tells them they need a "robust nationalism" instead.

It really is probably the deepest and most profound component of happiness (for me anyway) that you shouldn't compare yourself to others and should just do your thing.

Anyway, love 2 be in a field where all we do is compare ourselves constantly. Very healthy. Perfect, you might even say

Lotta competition, but I think the most brutal situation I was in on the job market was the one time a department emailed to say that no sufficiently "qualified" candidates had applied to their job, so they were canceling the search. Good to know you'd rather have no one than have me. Thanks guys

First day of the new semester, time to decide what Kind of Professor I will be. Have gone a bit formal (suit jacket over black t-shirt) and a bit causal (hoodie over a black t-shirt) in previous semesters. Will have to see this year. But one thing will always remain constant (black t-shirt).

I’ve just learned that the Rothko I hung for 28 years was upside down.

Humiliating. I read from my autobiography in front of that painting. I named my second child, No. 2, after that painting. I don’t even like it now.
