Not long ago, I was running in my town on LI & joined a pursuit with numerous cars & folks on foot after a wily sausage pup called Rufus. Rufus loved every 20+ minutes of this game as his person kept racing ahead of him in her SUV trying to cut him off & corral him. He’d turn & run the other way. 😂

To clarify, we are both children’s literature scholars. Our subfield is tiny, so we keep up with each others’ work. I wanted to speak out when it first happened, but mentors and friends suggested that I might make the situation worse.

The lecturer in question is our colleague in children’s literature studies. She is a brilliant scholar and from all accounts a gifted teacher.

This ruling is infuriating… at the end of the day, it is our students’ education that will suffer.

My father-in-law is reading In Covid’s Wake, and excitedly told me he found a passage where I’m quoted. The quote in question is me saying the FBI worked to censor speech on social media.

Absolutely this. But also they are targeting people who are especially vulnerable in the current political climate: QTBIPOC graduate students, lecturers, adjuncts. It’s appalling what universities have allowed to happen. Hoping this grad student is able to go to another uni where she is supported.

Private equity firms have been struggling to deliver on their core business model of taking on debt, buying companies and selling them for a profit. Several years of high interest rates have made it too expensive for many would-be buyers to purchase companies with debt, and private equity firms are contending with a backlog of more than 31,000 unsold companies, a record amount. Deal activity picked up toward the end of this year, but not enough to make a significant dent in the backlog.
Continuation vehicles are providing a short-term solution by allowing firms to sell the companies to themselves, book a paper gain and wait for interest rates to improve.

Private equity firms have been turning to this strategy more frequently. The dollar value of continuation vehicles across the industry is expected to total $100 billion or more by the end of 2025, up from about $35 billion in 2019, according to the investment bank Evercore.
Private equity is one of the biggest parts of the global economy, with more than $7 trillion in investors' money, and some of those investors are getting increasingly worried that strategies like continuation vehicles are putting off a painful reckoning.

Saw the film PETER HUJAR’S DAY with Ben Whishaw as Hujar & Rebecca Hall as Rosenkrantz. The film more than the book really captures the intimacy between Hujar & Rosenkrantz as they, together, document a day in his life. Now 50 years later, it’s poignant to have this record of a friendship.
