This is a strong statement, & I'm really glad House Dem Leader Hakeem Jeffries has vowed to fight on to prevent Republicans from continuing to decimate healthcare. Wish he'd use alt text with his posts. I've added it.

So much gratitude to have spent the day at the symposium On Call: June Jordan, Palestine, & the Black Radical Tradition at Stony Brook organized by my amazing colleague Abena Asare with keynotes by @alexispauline.bsky.social & @lenakt.bsky.social demonstrating the ethical practice of poetry.

Along with seeing the David Wojnarowitz: Arthur Rimbaud in New York show & joining the #NoKings protest in Brooklyn, I also popped into Unnameable books & came out with a haul of new & used books. I'm reading the Dangarembga essays now because I am teaching Nervous Conditions next week.

Do not miss the powerful & poignant show David Wojnarowicz: Arthur Rimbaud in New York at the Leslie-Lohman Museum. After returning from France, Wojnarowicz created the "photo-performance" series in 1978-79, documenting NYC before the onslaught of AIDS & gentrification.

The piece is paywalled so I'll screen grab some key parts for folks who don't have access to the Chronicle. Butler notes that, "Antisemitism must be unequivocally opposed along with every other form of racism," but says protocols for investigating such allegations "were suspended by the admin."

Friday night reading: the 30th anniversary edition of Derek Jarman's Garden, first published the year after his death in 1995. On his garden at Dungeness, Jarman wrote, "I saw it as a therapy & a pharmacopoeia."

Pile of books boxed up & ready to go to Bluestockings cooperative bookstore for @prisonculture.bsky.social's book drive to help keep them open! Had an extra copy of Indirect Action lying around (ha), so I threw that on top, plus some books I've taught. A weird & wonderful mix.
