The white backlash that is materially devastating democracy, marginalized people, and the planet is all b/c of symbolic gains. As Juliet Hooker writes, white grievance leads to real grief for the rest of us (but also for themselves in the end, because there is only one world).

It sounds like games during major holidays is going to be a major pushback in the future in the NBA and NFL. I don’t blame the players. They show the same teams every year, so some of there folks haven’t been home for Christmas for like a decade.

No. Ambassadors represent a country not an individual.

So the answer to “nobody wants to work anymore” is “they just want to live as well as a medieval peasant.”
I mean, possibly, but I have antibiotics and have been vaccinated against polio, so who’s really winning here, medieval peasants?
At this point, historians are just rubbing our face in it:

Contrary to popular belief on this 59th anniversary of Kwanzaa, is that it is a distinctly Black American holiday, and it is not an "alternative" to Xmas.

Its goal is to spend the last 7 days of the year incorporating the 7 principles of Kwanzaa in preparation of the New Year coming up

Notice Zohran doesn’t say SHIT. He lets this hero tell her story and knows that all he needs to say is “thanks” and even though doesn’t waste the breath to say it, he clearly means “on behalf of all New York, thanks”.

This, but also: people in tech know that every 10x developer has 10 people behind them cleaning up the mess they make.
People in tech talk about the idea of a “10x programmer” — someone whose work is worth that of 10 others. I get the impression Musk etc think they can apply it all over the federal workforce but like… there’s no such thing as a 10x ATC navigational aid maintenance worker. Some jobs just need people.
Abruptly firing people who work in air traffic control is like murdering your own soldiers in the middle of a war.

Even if you think things now aren’t working as efficiently as they should there’s no clear path to recovering from this; it’s just a really extremely foolish and dangerous thing to do.

The summer before my last year in library school, I volunteered at ARC—then at 54 White St in TriBeCa—to digitize music books using a scanner on loan from the Internet Archive. But on my first day, I was put to work as a cashier at their very popular Summer Sale, also a fundraiser for the archive.
Yesterday we visited the ARChive of Contemporary Music in Staatsburg. Since 1985 (when they launched in Tribeca) they’ve amassed 3M+ 🔊 recordings! What a wonderland for folks studying + doing creative work in contemporary / world music, sound history, music’s material + visual cultures…

This is the same dynamic which happened to me, a year ago to the day: a faculty appeals panel cleared
me entirely, after a six month investigation. NU effectively ignored it.

This is why adhering to rules (in Congress, the UN, unis) rarely works: the rules benefit the rulers, who can ignore them.
Texas A&M University will not reinstate a lecturer who was fired after a video of her teaching about gender identity in a children’s literature class went viral, despite a faculty appeals panel unanimously concluding that her dismissal was not justified.
