🚨A.I. INFILTRATION ALERT🚨

If you use Gmail (which is a LOT of you), the fuckin' company just installed Gemini into all of your "smart features," thus scanning all of your emails

You have to turn it off, then manually re-enable your smart inbox

It's a pain in the ass, but it's worth both steps:

This thread and replies is super interesting!
This has brought up a question I actually don't know - when did the specific form "the fae" become so popular in English?

OED has "Faerie" going back to Spenser, "fey" as "fairylike" in 1823, and there's obviously "Morgan le Fay" from French, but can't find much for "the fae" til quite recently!
Turning into my father one "the problem is no one reads enough books these days" grumble at a time

Uh oh, gotta well actually at my former employer!

Well actually, hermit crabs ALSO use their posterior legs to hold the shell in place (but indeed, their body goes inside of it)

Species shown here is Hypoconcha arcuata, a true crab 🦀🦑
Have you ever seen the granulate shellback crab? Unlike hermit crabs—which hide inside their chosen shells—this unusual-looking crustacean uses its posterior legs to hold a shell onto its back, protecting it from foes.

Only 1576590 more studies needed until anyone with the power to do this on a large scale will admit UBI works
An Oregon pilot program giving cash to homeless youths sees a staggering reduction in homelessness. The program gave participants $1,000 cash payments each month for two years, and at the end of the project's first phase, 91% of participants reported being in stable housing.

I did not know my dog had gone downstairs and I nearly peed out of fright when I suddenly heard him running back up. Furry little home invader.

What in Sam Hill?

ALT: a photo of JD Vance at a fancy dinner. He isn't wearing an undershirt under his white dress shirt and has what looks like a giant pit stain only it's around his nipple.

There’s no way this is real

I don't know why but I thought Rafe Spall was like a decade older than me when he is in fact only two years older than me. He's just never seemed under 40 to me.

Lasagna. Spent so many evenings stuck sitting at the dinner table for an hour refusing to take a single bite to appease my parents. Now I would sell an organ for a good lasagna.
What’s a food you hated as a kid but love now?

It’s mushrooms for me 🍄

Seriously, I feel like this was fully intentional. Oh, you think you're turning off AI features? Here's all 5000 of your promotional emails straight to your inbox then!
When I turned that off, the tabs "Updates, Promotions, Social, InBox" were deleted by default. The tabs that existed BEFORE Gemini. #rage

I feared this in 2016, but now it’s happened:

The CDC is gone. Strike them from your list of reliable purveyors of information.
CDC has overhauled its website to assert that “the claim ‘vaccines do not cause autism’ is not an evidence-based claim”

I mean, obviously there’s a super good reason for doing this.
"The Coast Guard will no longer classify the swastika as a hate symbol.

"Instead, the Coast Guard will classify the Nazi insignia as 'potentially divisive' under its new guidelines.

"The new policy similarly downgrades the definition of nooses and the Confederate flag."

I have been growing my hair for a year and came in with this Rihanna reference. My hair was already basically this length and shape. I said, I want to keep the length and just even it out. This is what this broad did. 😭😭😭

1/ Today is the anniversary of Sharron’s death. She & Alice Wong were both 51 when they died as single women, had lives shaped but not defined by long disabilities—Alice’s by spinal muscular atrophy, Sharron’s by cancer—and yet, both women LIVED. Amazing cooks. Warm hostesses. Spiritual. HILARIOUS!

Josh Gottheimer maintaining his steadfast commitment to being the fucking worst
These 20 House Democrats just joined Republicans in voting to fully repeal DC's police reform laws.

Wiping off the books critical laws on use of force, transparency, and preventing violent cops from getting rehired.

They think that they should have more say over DC police than the people of DC.
