i'm baffled by all the people in the replies to posts about the spy doorbells asking for alternatives. like... the alternative is a regualr fucking doorbell with no camera in it. or a door knocker. get you a weird gargoyle guy! you dont need a camera!

You non-sports fans have to understand that for people who are really into pro football, today is basically their Super Bowl
Any time I look to see what the Labour government is up to in the UK it turns out to be things like making posters that Alfonso CuarΓ³n put in the background of the long tracking shot that opens β€œChildren of Men”.

Thank you! I knew of the 1919 report, but not the others. Much appreciated!

Thanks!! As I’m sure you know, he did a huge amount of advocacy for adult education, but I’ve never been able to find him writing on it.

Is this his Equality, Jo? Does he discuss adult education in that book?

we've lost so much

That’s interesting! I feel like it’s exactly what I want. V often people will link to a piece in one of the big papers that I’d really like to read, but don’t want all their other stuff. FT or Economist might be examples. I’ve no interest in their business stuff. Maybe some of the US outlets too.

Yeah, I see what you mean. Music does seem a bit different as having access to anything whatsoever is really appealing because people have it as background and want lots of variety, whereas you don’t want that access to everything for reading. Eg audible

I remember someone saying 10 yrs ago that the big newspapers had the opportunity to create a platform like iTunes that would allow them to do this, and it was their decision not to that sunk print journalism. No idea whether it’s true, but I’d be interested to know why they didn’t go this route.
This is probably a very foolish thing to say for reasons I have no doubt someone will point out, but if you want me to pay for journalism (reasonable) then let me pay a small amount for the specific article I want to read, don't make me sign up for the entire damn paper.

Well, Lisa and I are so delighted enough to share that The Philosopher Queens is now being published with Hackett, with FIVE NEW CHAPTERS. The book will out in 2027 with new illustrations, a new introduction, and a new foreword as well.

One of my favourite cities in the country! Hope you enjoy!

And it has me thinking again about this year and a half old post by @economeager.bsky.social. Especially the line "We should teach them the best things," which has felt like a rearranging of my brain in a way I can't quite handle or live up to ever since.

So beautiful! The wheels from our van kept churning up insects, so a whole flock of them would follow us along, swooping down to the tires to catch them.
