What should engage people is the leader of a city NOT dispersing people who are making life miserable for ICE officers trying to sleep off their murders in a hotel in a city they’re terrorizing
You are correct, but I do want to throw out the idea that making them work for their food gives them more opportunities to fuck it up and makes more disengaged normies mad about being plainly lied to. This may not be compelling for everyone, but it's worth thinking about.

the issue isn't that US forces can't force the island to submit. It has a uniquely small population. We could theoretically just murder everyone.
But there is a fairly small threshold of resistance past which our only path forward is "mass murder of our recent allies"

soldiers most often kill civilians because they are using weapons that make it very hard to not kill innocent people, but also physically separate the user of said weapon from their victims
