In response to the dismantling of the CDC, California, Oregon, and Washington have launched the West Coast Health Alliance, which will make their own science-based vaccine guidelines, and make sure vaccines are accessible to everyone.

We LOVE our cargo bike. One of the best purchases we have made and it has definitely replaced a car so yes it was a big upfront cost but can already see the value
While enjoying some post-1st-day-of-school ice cream, someone at the shop (who had seen our family of 4 arrive via 1 cargo bike, our @bunchbike.com )asked where we got it & how much it cost.

Their face 🤯 when I said the price. Before I could respond a cashier interjected “cheaper than my car!”

Really great and important clip about how people forget how much work women did before major public health interventions (clean water, pasteurization) keeping their family SAFE. “We're going back to tradition and we don't know what it was"
It's easy to pretend that you don't need a safety net when women are doing the work of keeping you safe, unseen.
When people say "We used to drink raw milk from our own cow and it was fine,"

That's... usually not the case!

In families w their own cow, the mom usually boiled it before using.

We just forgot bc that's a boring chore that mom did. And who pays attention to that?

This is such a no-brainer that the lack of a coordinated response feels deeply damning. A Democratic leadership team that can't mobilize an instant all-hands-on-deck effort on RFK Jr. isn't a leadership team at all.
I know Democrats are overwhelmed (or rudderless, if you are less charitable) by the sheer volume of Trump authoritarian moves, but I’d like to see them unified behind specific goals like “RFK Jr is a threat to public health and needs to go.”

Kulldorff calls for the establishment of a CDC work group examining whether or not children today get too many vaccines and cumulative harms of that. This is explicitly anti-vaccine propaganda and senseless. When new vaccines are evaluated in prelicensure clinical trials, you do not...

Everyone wants there to be a grand scheme behind all of this but the terrible truth is that extremely stupid people are in charge and they have a fanatical devotion to wrong, childlike concepts of society and economics cooked up by right wing radio hosts in order to sell tainted dietary supplements

SCOOP: You've heard about the NIH terminating grants. I've learned of another, less visible way it's disrupting science: It’s removing some applications from peer review. Not rejecting them, but putting them on hold without saying why or if they'll ever be reviewed. www.chronicle.com/article/the-...
The Quiet Way the NIH Is Stalling Some Research Before It Starts
A number of grant proposals have disappeared from scientists’ review pipelines, with little explanation. Applicants are bewildered and frustrated.

The National survey on drug use and health (NSDUH) is the only national longitudinal survey tracking mental health and substance/drug use in the US. Now gone. Unbelievable they would gut this whole group at SAMHSA…there is NO WAY to replace a longitudinal data collection instrument.
The entire SAMHSA staff that manages the National Survey on Drug Use and Health has been terminated. This is the only survey that tracks mental health and substance use trends in the US.

We really are flying blind now.

Today I lost an NIH grant training clinicians to do research about intimate partner violence with perinatal women.

More women are murdered in the perinatal period than die of obstetric complications.

I didn't just lose a grant. We lost an entire cohort of people building careers to prevent that.
