This was actually really cool to see for a moment. So much goes into making sure you can see all the angles and reactions, and so many people have put huge effort into making all this happen.

That said, I would give up the drone shots to never hear that whizzing noise again.
Interesting technical glitch on the Olympics coverage. Someone had a nasty spill during the freestyle skiing (they were okay). The broadcast operator may have panicked and tried to change to a different camera angle, but for a few frames, we saw this:

I want the pierogi so much.
OMG, here’s some joy. The Polish figure skating team’s mascot is a STUFFED PIEROGI! #Olympics 😍🥟

Someone should really tell all the Olympic athletes with facial hair that this mustache is how you will be remembered. Choose wisely.

I love this spectacular Ruffed Grouse Pennsylvania resistance bird by Jen Rand ( @jenrand.bsky.social ). The star is a nod to the Quaker tenet of nonviolence, and the style harks back to PA Dutch folk art.

My oldest silpat is from 2002. Most from 2006. Haven't bought another since, even though they are used almost daily for everything from roasting meat to freezing veggies to baking.

Buy a few of the real things before they are gone forever.
Only a very specific baking audience is going to care about this but apparently the company that makes Silpat has abruptly shut down. I’m personally buying up ones I can find from secondary retailers cause these things are irreplaceable. I’m bummed.

This is an EXCELLENT thread.
Let's talk about generative AI, contaminated information, and rhubarb.

Once upon a time, Europe was at war.

Food was scarce, and the government of the quote-unquote United Kingdom looked for alternatives. 1/

Our cat has discovered the existence of an attic - which is extremely dirty, we emptied it but still need to do a deep clean - and now sits by the closed door crying because she wants to go roll in the dirt and lick the spiderwebs.

Hey it's *Bandcamp Friday* again. The best day to go find that artist who was top of your Spotify unwrapped and actually buy their music, because all the proceeds go to them today. And by god do musicians need it.

Joke's on Santa, I really want the new and beautiful 12th Edition of the @merriam-webster.com Dictionary under the tree this year!

(But seriously. That, and the Lego Enterprise NCC-1701-D.)
Santa has been reading your skeets all year.

Most of you are getting dictionaries.

Throw tomatoes at target/Walmart/Amazon! Get some freaky little presents from artists!

Big corps make the wealthy wealthier & artists are trying to buy wet food for their cats.

The least popular president in US history is not Trump, not Nixon, not Hoover, not the usual suspects...

It is Harry S. Truman. He had an approval rating of 22%.

He refused to compromise on human rights and championed civil and workers rights. And the American people loathed him for it.

AI is like this giant fucking boat we all were forced to get on, and it's a boat they stole, and also it barely floats, and also it's not going anywhere good. So it either takes us somewhere we hate, or it fucking sinks, so either way, fuck AI.
So if AI succeeds loads of people lose their jobs as they're replaced by AI, and if AI fails, loads of people lose their jobs as the economy crashes?
It’s amazing how this story has gone from 0 to 60 in UK press. There’s been no mainstream coverage to date but this morning the story is leading BBC News site & bulletins.
