So here is the thing about teenagers: they are children playing at adulthood. That cognitive dissonance is hard for a lot of ppl & doesn’t mesh w a society based on reducing everyone to a consumer demo. Our job as adults, tho, is to provide them w the safety & support networks they need 1/5

Intercountry #Adoptees are among many who are now asked to live in fear because of this corrupt, broken, global system of family separation and human commerce, as well as failures by our members of Congress to secure them secured legal rights that are owed by the country that brought them here. 🥚
US citizen Maria Greeley, a Latina who was adopted, was walking home from work downtown when masked agents zip tied her. They said she “doesn’t look like a Greeley.” This is how the government treats people under current deportation policies.

I stand with unionized Starbucks workers, who are on strike across the country right now for better wages and working conditions.

Until Starbucks strikes a fair bargain with its workers and ceases its union-busting behavior, I'll continue to boycott the company.

A few weeks ago I was talking politics with a local, highly straight, bartender.

All the sudden he said: “Well, I think a big part of the problem is that so many of the people who would’ve been our progressive leaders died of AIDS & can’t help us now.”

And I’ve thought about that every day since.

Libraries purchase books. When you see a book at the library, it isn’t “free”

the library bought it.

which in turn means that the community bought it.

In other words, library books are not lost sales for authors and publishers; they’re positive sales. Active sales. Those are bought.

when certain celebrities state that adopting a child is “no different” from birthing a child, note that this is the legal structuring that makes that pretense possible 🥚
yes, that, which is part of the grand fantasy of #adoption, which is at the core of its appeal for many adopters

“We’ve realized we need to focus on reducing trauma, and based on data and research, we can do that by placing children with family.” Studies show children in kinship care have more stability, fewer behavioral health needs, and fewer disruptions. 🥚

Meanwhile, here's an example of the horrendous things found in Hillary Clinton's emails—the only story worth covering for any serious news outlet in 2016, apparently.

This email is also regarding a child who suffered abuse from a grown man.

did you know that intercountry #adoptees born before 1983 have no guarantee of US citizenship, and instead are treated as immigrants who must obtain citizenship through naturalization? That they are subject to deportation if they have committed a crime or are deemed to be in the US “illegally?”
