i think a lot of this is basically driven by the fact that military history is dad coded, and it overlaps with male-coded pop history
It's honestly ironic how mil hist/strategy (but especially for premodern periods) is chud-coded because a lot of the scholarship is fairly progressive and tries to incorporate societal studies about things like gender roles
