Hey yall. So I’ve been less active on here for a while now (and was never very active to begin with) due to an ex and their current friend group watching my known socials, or at least the expectation and fear of that, living in my head. I’m not gonna get into that and I won’t be naming names (cont.)

“Curtis Evans stood directly in front of the gate with an American flag. The 65-year-old Evanston resident heard about the first protest on social media and came to represent “the ideals that our country stands for.”

“None of us have ever done this before,” he said…

I believe this to my core. They're using trans people as a test case to dismantle individual rights in the US.
Trans rights are not the rights of a tiny minority, trans rights are everyone’s rights to self-determination, control of our bodies, and a society where opportunity and aesthetics are not restricted by sex assigned at birth

You should support and defend trans people because trans people are people

I have no idea what white people are talking about right now. The warnings that the fascists will "use this" to do more violence. WHAT WON'T THEY USE? You've watched them deploy the US military on US soil using bullshit pretexts. What even are you talking about?

Stop calling it "political violence" in ways that suggest this is something new.

Politics are almost always violent.

OUR politics have always been violent.

The words you are searching for are "political assassination" or "deadly terrorism."

Which are also not new, but are certainly less common.

In June, a Democratic state rep in Minnesota was murdered, and a state senator was shot.

And a couple of days later, Trump said he wouldn't phone Gov. Walz, calling him "whacked out" and "a mess"
Trump says he is ordering all U.S. flags lowered to half-mast in honor of Charlie Kirk

Just a reminder to check for your name in this list of books that OpenAI trained from. If your name is there, they probably owe you several thousand dollars.

OpenAI cried that if everyone eligible author files, the company will go bankrupt, so I'm alerting every author I have ever spoken to.

It’s not a “gotcha” if I want an actual answer

“ I need him to have a policy that doesn’t destroy homeless people”

Is not a “purity test”

It’s a request , making you say you don’t believe in that isn’t a trap

Because here’s the thing?

You could.

Had a day full of Stuff after a week full of Things which meant I only had One Hour to write this 1000 word essay, and I SURE DID IT. But at the cost of finding out After doing all of that… That I didn’t even need to write it. There are 7 chances to write one of these essays and we only need 3 total

There will be many casualties from UChicago ending ('pausing') PhD admissions in Humantities, but one which I am keenly aware of: this is close to a death sentence for teaching cuneiform in the United States (esp. Sumerian, Hittite, Elamite, Eblaite, Luwian) and it will affect the whole world.
“Chicago has long helped to keep alive tiny fields & esoteric areas of humanistic study... Without the univ’s support, & the continued training of grad students who can keep these bodies of kn going, entire spheres of human learning might eventually blink out.” www.theatlantic.com/culture/arch...

There is no route out of fascism that involves sacrificing the vulnerable. All that does is tell the fascists that we're willing to turn on each other for the illusion of safety.
A lot of political influencers within the Atlantic/NYT orbit are very, very eager to sell us on the lie that we can get out of fascism by sacrificing trans people.

They will beat that drum even louder as the right weaponizes this tragedy.

They are liars now & they will be liars in the coming days.

I'm a modestly successful indie author and the absolute most I've ever made in one year from writing is around $2k. Extremely successful indie authors & Big 5 agented authors do a bit better than this, but not much-- I think the average comes out to like $7k per year?
No, authors aren't burnt out because "writing without AI is slow"

We're burnt out because we're paid dirt so we need day jobs to survive
