Concern about Uptown’s changing face is familiar and overwrought
Yes, the critical Minneapolis retail and entertainment hub is suffering. But the key to its future isn’t recreating the past.

It's been a bit over 48 hours since the Federal raid in South, and I'm still struck by the impact that such a large, armed presence has had on our community. Impact matters, especially given the fear that our immigrant communities are facing from this Federal administration.

Uptown Dead report
Lower Hennepin was jamming today. Lines at Maeger’s, Mosaic, and Moona Moono.

Not sure this corner needs/can support quite this many $7-$9 iced beverages. Nor am I sure these Minneapolis baristas can handle the crowds. But one thing I am sure of is that Uptown is back.

To America’s 2.3 million federal employees:

Don’t accept a buyout.

Neither Musk nor even Trump has the legal authority to make such an offer.

And even if they did, would you trust them to follow through on it?

Clearing sidewalks like roads is not radical. It’s just what any serious winter city does. If you don’t get enough snow to justify clearing sidewalks then you should probably get rid of your road clearing equipment too.

Something I like about Minneapolis is we know how to embrace & endure winter.

One way is to have a kite festival on a frozen lake in January. 🪁

We also have an art festival on this same frozen lake in Jan/Feb.
