Also it’s wild that one of the most prominent and successful Democrat politicians has made these kinds of issues central to his affordability agenda and the party is running away from him
like, genuinely, what is the method to ensure a centrist cohesive party line that Matty wants here outside of methods like democratic centralism

IMO the last sentence is extremely damning. A fundamental misapprehension of capitalism!

That last paragraph is astonishing
I haven't seen people here mention this letter from the mayor of Illinois' 2nd-largest city (Aurora, 40+% Latino)

to the Aurora Police

following egregious attacks by immigration in Aurora and related protests

So here it is!

It's called a "synecdouche", 'Tone, I learned about it from the movie nerds. It's one of 'em figures of speeches where one thing represents another bigger kinda thing. Sorta like when a big Bazzone makes you think of Johnny Boy and you get one of 'em panic attacks but that's between you and me, T.

Another day another load bearing norm uncovered. Many such cases
In the long run, Biden keeping that wall between himself and DOJ - leading to the conviction and humiliation of his son - achieved absolutely nothing. The standard is gone. The incentive for future presidents is to punish your enemies and say "your mom, lol" when reporters ask about it.
there are good & worthwhile historical & legal arguments for why the unitary executive is nonsense but to my mind the most straightforward argument is that it makes no logical sense that the president has absolute removal power over the people whose job it is to keep the executive branch accountable

As someone who is not a professional politics knower, I have also been shocked at how bad things have gotten, and how quickly. For all the discourse about “oh it’s as bad as I predicted,” worth acknowledging that it is extremely bad, unprecedentedly so, and that is because of Trump specifically
Yeah yeah structural trends, whatever, it’s really underrated how just extraordinarily fucking bad Donald Trump has been for the country. “He’s a symptom” isn’t totally untrue in some senses, but it’s also a too-clever-by-half take a lot of the time. He was and is in fact uniquely bad.

I don’t typically take to rage bait but this is just so fucking galling. The dude who murdered Melissa Hortman and her husband was a MAGA freak who was targeting Democrats. This is the reason we should never compromise with these people. They lie to your face.

Been thinking about this a lot — they think that there will never be any reckoning for this; that the clock really can be turned back
Just openly cheering the destruction of any representation of gay people in public space. They think their power is totally unrestricted, and the entire country will support them rolling back society to the 1950s, or maybe the 1850s

I don’t think this is right; I can’t name a single former Republican who has been “effective” at opposing Trump
One reason former Republicans have been better at opposing Trump than many progressives is because they correctly understand that the GOP’s descent into fascism represents a dramatic shift, and is therefore scarier, where the latter groups feel the need to argue it’s just a continuation of trend

Yes. These people got everything they could have wanted and are fucking miserable
After a few days witnessing the Bad Bunny Super Bowl thing I guess my questions are:

Is this just how it is now? Are white people just going to cry about every single thing that ever happens from now on until forever now? Like on top of the kidnappings are they just going to keep fucking whining?

Jeffries won’t endorse Mamdani for many reasons, but a big one is that he exposes the lie at the heart of the current Dem leadership structure, which is that Trump is an aberration, he’s not really doing anything some gumption and can-do attitude can’t fix, and we should pine for 2009
