This was a first for me today:
On the phone with customer service call center at a financial services firm. Human answers the phone and introduces himself as a virtual assistant (?!).
I had a 10-minute call with this guy who was obviously reading a chatbot's responses off a screen.
Weird.

This is correct. And author-narrated books are great. Hearing @preetbharara.bsky.social cursing while quoting a mobster, or @chrislhayes.bsky.social doing impersonations of Nixon and Ben Franklin are added bonuses of reading two particular audiobooks.
I don’t know who needs to hear this but listening to an audio book absolutely counts as “reading” a book.
In fact, I’d argue that listening to an author read their own work aloud is an exceptionally magical and even holy experience.
I love it so much. Especially as my eyesight gets worse.

Four years after the terrible invasion of Ukraine, transshipments to Russia via Kyrgyzstan run rampant from Germany (top left) and Italy (top right). If Poland (bottom left) and Lithuania (bottom right) can get this under control, why not Germany and Italy?
