Whenever I'm frustrated with the Democrats I take some comfort in the fact that they're not as bad as Labour (in abandoning liberal values). Not yet, anyway.
Keir Starmer's spokesman insisted on Monday that "clearly these changes will not be retrospective" for those already granted asylum, as Reform have been demanding.

Some people have asked what I mean when I talk about the need for anti-corruption reforms. Here are some ideas.

I’ve had conversations with conservative intellectuals that boiled down to “don’t you think trans people are weird?” and like, no, bro, I don’t.

Yes, the entire murderous campaign is premised on the GOP pretending we live in some kind of Breaking Bad Extended Universe where drug cartels are peer-state enemies with fleets, Air Forces, and maniacally dedicated soldiers who will continue “their mission” after being blown to bits in the ocean.
He might have been signaling the reverse-vampires, or the reptiloid mothership or something.

This is what republicans hope you’re stupid enough to believe.

WTF does Jeffries think his job is?
Jeffries claims the charges against Cueller were "very thin" and says Trump's pardon was "exactly the right outcome"

Nothing good, I'm afraid.
What does it say about this country that that the kind of open, rank bigotry Trump administration officials regularly express towards black immigrants apparently has no social cost because of the number of Americans who quietly agree or don't care.

For instance the right has veered towards outright sociopathy because it is essentially immersed in a lynch mob 24/7, in which attention and fame are secured by endorsing ever-more-psychopathic expressions of violence towards a (largely hallucinated) class of subhuman out-group enemies
Megyn Kelly on alleged war crimes: "I really do kind of not only wanna see them killed in the water, whether they're on the boat or in the water, but I'd really like to see them suffer. I would like Trump and Hegseth to make it last a long time so they lose a limb and bleed out."

It will never not disgust me that we Americans had a choice in 2024 of this guy or not this guy and a slim majority said, "Sure, why not?"
If this were your dad, you’d be texting the siblings: “We need to talk.”

I wish this weren't true but fear that it will be.
Something I think that is under discussed is that even if Ds pick up a trifecta w/in the party you couldn’t get agreement on blanket restoration of budget items to say 2023 levels apart from the real likelihood of lack of prosecutions there is a high chance we don’t see meaningful restoration

Alan Dershowitz because of course.
Alan Dershowitz is one of those claiming Epstein was not a pedophile because he pleaded guilty to one count of having sex for money with a 17-year-and-10-month-old person. "That’s not a pedophile." See this important response from Julia Brown, the brave reporter who broke the news on this

Got to love how much praise NYT gets for one article, 2+ years late, that literally just rehashes things we all knew already but NYT has spent the last 2 years ignoring & denying & obfuscating.

The New York Times produced a detailed, data-driven report on President Trump showing signs of aging. The president, 79, responded by calling the female reporter who co-wrote the story “ugly.” https://cnn.it/48idUFL

Lots of people sharing this clip because it's funny and cathartic but I also genuinely believe it's important.

We have to win the narrative battle between "I live in a corrupt society and that's just how it is" and "I live in a corrupt society and we are going to defeat and humiliate these ghouls."
Good morning to Brazilian reporter Manuela Borges, who’s been waiting eleven years for this petty moment. ❤️ 🇧🇷

Profiles in cowardice.
I wish I didn’t have to share this. But the BBC has decided to censor my first Reith Lecture.

They deleted the line in which I describe Donald Trump as “the most openly corrupt president in American history.” /1

Setting aside this writer’s and the NYT’s agendas and motivations, what this kind of political writing does is legitimatize liars, bigots, propagandists, and authoritarians/fascists. Point blank. We are living in the result of such moral vacuousness.
What a strange framing and characterization. How does one describe his blatantly dishonest, racist question about taxes as “press[ing] the Mayor-elect on his policy proposals”? In what way does this lying troll emerge as a “winner“?

WTF?
Dept. of Ed is reclassifying all the female dominated professions (nurse, therapist, speech pathologist, PA) as not having “professional” degrees, which makes it harder for them to get educational loans.

Another FUCKED UP thing this admin is doing to attack women’s power.

Take that shit to court!

Summers has maybe the most charmed resume in the country, has led a greater number of elite institutions than anyone else I can think of, and it's been clear the entire time that he brings no special insight, no management genius. The value he brings is his elite status itself, and nothing more.

Nixon was nothing compared to this "president".. I don't care about the sanitized version of this "full report", because it is not. Show us the list of video tapes that were found at the mansion, who is on it and did it show and prove blackmail was part of J.E. strategy.

This is so crucial and for some reason so overlooked. For voters with transphobic or other bigoted views, you're not going to win them over with "a little" transphobia. They've already got a party that wholeheartedly agrees with them. Why would they turn to a candidate who gives them just a taste?
There is already a party that is giving bigots everything they want; they've got it all locked up. Anyone so devoted to their bigotries that they hold their votes contingent over it is going to vote for that party.

Differentiate to win.
Don't differentiate to lose.

This is very simple marketing.

I would put it like this. Minority communities and the majority of the majority community have integrated v.well. However, a significant minority of the majority community and a significant majority of the political class are stubbornly refusing to integrate, and that is where the real problem lies.
Fundamentally, the UK is a massive success story on integration and most of the anxiety around it from the right should be treated as in insincere concern trolling it actually is.
Remember integration? That thing voters "really, really" care about? Where's that in the latest plans?
