For instance the right has veered towards outright sociopathy because it is essentially immersed in a lynch mob 24/7, in which attention and fame are secured by endorsing ever-more-psychopathic expressions of violence towards a (largely hallucinated) class of subhuman out-group enemies

Summers has maybe the most charmed resume in the country, has led a greater number of elite institutions than anyone else I can think of, and it's been clear the entire time that he brings no special insight, no management genius. The value he brings is his elite status itself, and nothing more.
