Absolutely on point for Australia's Labor government: they perceive any environmental issue as solved if they successfully sell it to the people as solved. There is no physicality or reality to any of these problems: just polls and perception and focus groups.

Lol. Dutton making the inevitable pivot from Greenie bashing to commie scaremongering.
Sometimes you just have to giggle. What do you think made me a radical extreme communist? Working as a corporate lawyer? Advising Australia’s biggest companies at BCG? A strategic role at Australia’s then biggest employer, Wesfarmers? The actual radical extreme communists must be horrified! #auspol

Garden essentials; flowers for pollinators, water bowls for heatwaves, hamster wheel for fun
In 2014 Dutch scientists left a hamster wheel outside, to see if wild animals would use it like their domesticated counterparts.

The answer: hell yes! 734 visits from wild mice - plus rats, shrews, slugs ("running" being subjective here) & even frogs and snails.

The apparent reason: fun. Just fun.

Wild to me that people, even progressives, continue to cast environmental protestors as elites when this is the reality.
Australia is increasingly criminalising peaceful protests while allowing corporate lobbying to thrive.

As @jack-thrower.bsky.social writes - Protesting fines are expensive; lobbying is cheap. #OffTheCharts

I still hear a lot of arguments on the left that we can persuade or recruit M*GA but I think it's naive, and privileged, to downplay them choosing violence, and there are a lot of other, more viable people to engage in progressive politics.
@aoc.bsky.social: "they will be rounded up and put into a private detention camp and signed and sent out for deportation without a day in court. So when a private prison camp opens in your town and they say we didn't know this was going to happen, know that they did, and they voted for it."
