This Charter School Superintendent Makes $870,000. He Leads a District With 1,000 Students.
On paper, Salvador Cavazos earns less than $300,000 to run Valere Public Schools, a small Texas charter network. But taxpayers likely aren’t aware that in reality, his total pay makes him one of the c...

Which ...was the warning this time last year.
I don't think most people is sufficiently appreciated that the consensus "racism is bad" took an extraordinary effort not only to kick off but to maintain. And we should all be extremely scared of this now, because if it happens this fast to any group, it could happen that fast to your group.
Here is the editor of Tablet agreeably reposting someone calling nonwhite NYC immigrants "worthless biotrash." It's astonishing how quickly this stuff has escaped containment

not big on new years resolutions but I'm gonna try to read more books this year

I used to read a ton and between work and family stuff it's been a lot harder for me to find the time in recent years

and every time I sit down with a book it's such a nice, comforting thing and I miss it

I've been tracking the spread of nonconsensual deepfakes on X for more than two years. Here's a timeline of how Musk's leadership allowed the practice to flourish from a once-underground market to a viral trend, with little recourse for victims or legal enforcement.

When I've talked to deepfake victims, both public figures and everyday people, I've heard horror stories about police laughing them out the door, girls getting expelled for reporting their classmates, and lawyers advising them that suing would just make it worse. This is abuse culture in action.

That's the least Minnesotan thing I've ever said.

Because assholes won't wear seatbelts a lot of newer cars are equipped with laminate windows that makes it difficult to break the glass. The goal is to reduce the risk of people being ejected from vehicles in a crash.

But it also traps you in a vehicle if the doors can't open.

I just saw a video talking about the Tesla door safety problem and the number of comments that are like, "well you should read the manual" are...shocking.

No, cars should be intuitively safe. Passengers are not reading the manual. Are you doing a safety briefing every time you give someone a ride?

As near as I can tell, this man was briefly “on the faculty” of a small college devoted to business education but he has big ideas for revamping the entire university system.
This article advocates for the “Faculty Merit Act” that would — get this — require all faculty applicants to submit their *SAT* scores. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Holy shirts that’s hilarious.

Whether simply seen as insufficient or demonic, evangelical Christians are trained to reject expertise in favor of the world as understood anywhere from 100 to 200 to 2000 years ago.

This is a great thread.

To insert something here though…

This is why evangelical Christianity has proven such a powerful indicator—whether a tool of or causal factor—of support for fascism.

Evangelical Christians are already taught that expertise of the physical world is incorrect.
And one of the ways that you create separate ecosystems, that you fracture a population, that you make people who live next door to each other exist in completely separate worlds, is by destroying the idea of *expertise.*

This means the adults in their lives didn’t teach them this, correct?
It's 2026.

Things many American school kids probably don't know how to do:

* Dial a rotary telephone

* Tell time from an analog clock

* Read or write cursive

* Decipher Roman numerals

* Navigate with a paper map or use a compass

* Balance a checkbook

DHS says REAL ID, which DHS certifies, is too unreliable to confirm U.S. citizenship
It's the punch line to a bad joke that started 20 years ago when Congress passed the REAL ID Act.
