Today we celebrate the time that an illegal accessory dealing unit (which was not up to code) got used as an unregistered short term rental to host an historic birthday bash by a bunch of non-locals, all in clear violation of city ordinances and to the detriment of the neighborhood character.

This is 404 Media's @jasonkoebler.bsky.social waving at himself through a Flock camera; one of 60 we learned was left exposed to the open internet. Not only could anyone with a link livestream it, but some admin portals were open with no login credentials required.

My neighbor told me pro boxers keep pummeling his douchebag influencers so I asked how many influencers he has and he said he just goes to the internet and gets a new influencer afterwards so I said it sounds like he’s just feeding influencers to boxers and then everyone's daughter started cheering.

I'm not in academia, but the lesson I learned in undergrad was definitely "find a sentence somewhere that says what you'd like to write yourself, and then cite precisely that sentence".

I think this post nails the actual problem, for researchers at least—AI hallucinations would simply not be a problem in academic work if we’d not normalized citation-as-signaling rather than actual engagement—you can only cite a fake paper if you’re not in the habit of reading the papers you cite
