virginia democrats winning the three big offices with a cia agent, an indian muslim immigrant, and a black lawyer who loves committing terms of service violations is real 2025 democratic party moment

seriously how long has it been since we had dems in LD-21? Ballotpedia only goes back to ‘01 and it’s been solid red the whole time.
it's time to Remember Some Guys (And, In Some Cases, "Gals")
LD-02 Claire Swift lost to Maureen Rowan
LD-08 Michael Torrissi lost to Anthony Angelozzi
LD-21 Nancy Muñoz lost to Andrew Macurdy
LD-21 Michele Matsikoudis lost to Vinnie Kearney
LD-25 Christian Barranco lost to Marisa Sweeney

big win for my mother specifically, LD-21’s strongest soldier
Democrats Andrew Macurdy and Vinnie Kearney have flipped both seats in New Jersey's 21st Legislative District, unseating Assemblywomen Nancy Muñoz and Michele Matsikoudis

a grand coalition emerges 😎
The factional grifters will hate this, but the Mamdani-Spanberger-Sherrill axis actually suggests the outlines of a broad, emerging Dem coalition organized around both anti-Trump *and* affordability politics, not a party bitterly divided against itself.
These big wins will embolden Dems to take on Trump's lawbreaking and show there's a price for GOP enabling of him. Folks hate to hear this, but normal patterns are asserting themselves: Liberalism isn't dead, Rs are likely to lose in 2026, and Trump is really unpopular, not a magical exception.

i wouldn't be a total glenn youngkin hater if i didn't mention that the results tonight mean that his total tenure amounted to presiding over the destruction — at least for the next few years — of the virginia republican party. lmao.

Brick, both culturally and partisanship-wise, is like if Democrats were winning a partisan boroughwide race in Staten Island. Mayor Lisa Crate just pulled it off, for Brick Democrats' idk, uh, fourth improbable win in a row?
Brick is, well, Brick. why is it consistently voting for Democrats even in super-off-years, and why did a Democrat just survive an election with healthy turnout concurrent with an expensive statewide in *Brick*

grand unified theory of jersey city round 1 (provisional): voters chose based on resistlib energy (Solomon) or path-of-least-resistance name recognition (McGreevey); Trump overshadowing election helped Sherrill while hurting the nonpartisan technocratic JC mayor candidates who this user favored. sad

Morris County was once the rock-ribbed Republican heartland of New Jersey, most famously producing Chris Christie before turning purple in the Trump era. it just elected a Democrat to the state Assembly who ran as a progressive on the anti-machine Fulop slate
when was the last time a Democrat *from* Morris County served in Trenton? gotta be a looooong fucking time ago.

TRANS RIGHTS WINS ELECTIONS
if you didn't follow the VA governor race you didn't know that Earle-Sears ran like a billion anti-trans campaign ads and Spanberger didn't flinch or pull a Newsom.

going all-in against trans people is a losing move, especially when the federal government has made harming and killing us a priority.
Every single county in Virginia shifted Blue.

I also think Dems trapped Miyares with their special session on redistricting. All of a sudden, at the close of the race, he was back in Richmond issuing legal opinions to help the GOP. Re-polarized the race.
Hindsight's 20/20. If you're Jason Miyares and you get that Jay Jones text exchange, you absolutely use it.

But Miyares had been running a sort of non-partisan tough-on-crime campaign and switched to nonstop ads about the text messages. Looks like the juice ran out.

Can confirm that the blurb is Alexandria’s boilerplate “you forgot to flatten PDF” docket entry. Silly mistake, but there but for the grace of gd…
1. I think almost everyone has made this mistake. I have. You need to remember to "flatten" your PDFs.

2. Most likely, you're scoring points on the attorney's paralegal, not the attorney.

3. I am sure the Court has a standard set of instructions for this problem, because it happens a lot.
People who are giggling at this have not spent hours trying to alter/compress/convert pdfs into whatever ECFs protocols happen to require on that day. I thought sympathy for halligan was impossible but this gets me.
