I knew that Mamdani had it; he had the people and did the work, and has been the clearest and most lucid in rejecting the untenable current state of things. But the vile, bigoted shit against him was so constant, and I am conditioned to that working better than I want. This feels like an exorcism.

the distance between regular people and politicians/political media is nearing crisis levels. at some point there’s gonna be violent revolt and the responsibility will lay with the people who’ve choked off all avenues for non-violent change far more than the people engaged in violence themselves

If you're wondering why they don't go to court with their high paid lawyers for an easy win, it's because this allows Google to bribe Trump.

All the big players are way over their skis on AI investment and are sure they will need a bailout at some point. It's 2009 but for tech instead of housing

the people who loudly proclaim your kids shouldnt go to college all went to yale and duke. the people who are working tirelessly to ensure your children work in factories send their own kids to stanford and give them control of their own investment banks in their 20s

Crime is happening somewhere! I scrolled by a carjacking snuff film that looked eerily like Russian dashcam footage but was labeled as "Deep Baltimore."

But where I am? Lol no. No crime happening here. Anyway we must stop the crime that is constantly, vaguely happening in any and all elsewheres.

Hi, this is Meg Barnette, Brad's wife.

While escorting a defendant out of immigration court at 26 Federal Plaza, Brad was taken by masked agents and detained by ICE.

This is still developing, and our team is monitoring the situation closely.

all i know is how i feel and what people tell me about how they feel. and what i feel is a deep well of rage at everyone on the right who have authored so much misery and pain. i want a political party that reflects that rage and will do something about it. i want justice. i want retribution.

I can't really do anything about it and I don't actually disagree with the response on the merits but I feel like it can't be good for me to be walking around all the time feeling the way I do about ICE hogs or RFK Jr.

i think it is important to say that the open and explicit racism of the president and the vice president isn’t just uncouth or “controversial” but a direct attack on tens of millions of americans and a dereliction of their duty to represent the entire country

everyone who shit their pants about the thought of trump standing trial or serving time, take note: THIS is what actual failing states look like. functional states punish crimes and coups, even when they’re done by elites. it’s sclerotic, broken states that allow them to return to power, unpunished
An attempted coup with no consequences. Not for the leader, not for the people who carried it out. They tried to violently overthrow the lawfully elected government and were given the green light.

That’s not something that happens in functional democracies.

It is illegal for landlords to do this. And it's evil. And it shows why housing should not be a for-profit industry.

my armchair psychological diagnosis is that the drive to accumulate as much wealth as possible eats away at the drive for self-improvement or the internal desire to cultivate any skills or tastes. these people build huge mounds of treasure and then essentially just sit around looking at it, empty.
find it genuinely delighting that people with enough money to never work again (and do literally anything they want anywhere in the world at any time) seemingly have nothing going on in their lives and are so miserable they are just spending the holidays frantically posting

Congresswoman Kay Granger, reportedly in assisted living, transferred the deed to her home in July for $10, according to property records I obtained. July is when she cast her last recorded vote.

It's almost like most americans really despise for profit healthcare and that a presidential candidate who made single payer one of his core policies and really hammered the message home could win in a landslide if his campaign wasn't throttled by his own party on purpose

Seeing some people say that NYPD cops must have been affected by UnitedHealth being terrible, and while that might be true I think it’s far more relevant that police forces have become first and foremost interested in extracting as much money from cities as possible and uninterested in much else.

It might seem like a cop-out to blame capitalism for so many things, but once you look for it, you see how it subverts every sphere of human life. Advance far enough in any field and you’ll become aware of open secrets that things are being done poorly or even dangerously because of profit motive.
