A brief thread on the history of FEMA and how it ended up in DHS. Right now, FEMA and its staff are caught up in the partial shutdown.
That’s a good question. While federal involvement has existed for over a hundred years it was largely ad hoc. In 1973 the responsibilities were brought under HUD where it remained until Carter Admin created FEMA In 1979.

While humans may have evolved intellectually enough to create such technology, I fear we have not evolved enough morally and ethically to not use it to harm one another.

The fact that large parts of the German media landscape “reported” on this White nationalist fever dream of a speech by Rubio as merely reaffirming the transatlantic alliance is so far removed from reality that it truly makes me speechless.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio giving a speech that is basically an extended version of the ethnonationalist Proud Boys oath: “I'm a proud Western chauvinist, I refuse to apologize for creating the modern world.”
The Rubio speech really is appalling, and if you haven’t read it yet, you should.

Yes; we know this. But that corporate profits are being sustained is on us. The American public needs to stop watching MSM television - for a start - and tell the stations why.
