What raptor (bird) has a big white belly around here? Its belly seemed too light colored for a Cooper’s, and too big in size. Definitely think it had a hawk shape not an owl shape when it flew off. Osprey doesn’t seem big enough. I don’t see red-tailed hawks in the city much. We’re nearish Carkeek.

After much deliberation and a grueling interview process, I’m pleased to announce that I’ve accepted a new job and will not need any financial support from my parents to cover the high costs of childcare going forward. #AmericanDream #ThisIsYourCity

Literally my biggest nightmare, especially as my firstborn was a bolter with zero car awareness. We played Red Light Green Light whenever we were out to train him to stop when I yelled RED LIGHT, but it wasn't failsafe. It's also why we originally sought professional help for his ADHD when he was 5.

It was great to see the @sbworkersunited.org picket line on 15th Ave today! Reminder that Starbucks workers are *on strike* and also we live in a town with like 1000 coffee shops, so don’t cross that line!

Seattle used to fund so much transit service until covid (and jenny durkan)

In 2019, almost 75% of the city lived within walking distance of a bus every 10 mins or better. Today, it's only like 50%!

Time to get the buses running again!

Also if I hear one more person talk about how researching school board candidates is a waste of their time, I might scream. I don't have a personal investment in any number of things that are part of progressive politics, but I recognize them as universal societal goods, just like public education.

The big problem there is the Stranger doesn't even cover SPS, and so they don't fully understand the issues or the politics of schools. But their endorsements are decisive. And grassroots efforts to fix the schools struggle when the Stranger goes against them, as happened in 2023 and in 2025.

Maybe this is controversial, but I think it is fundamentally unhealthy for a progressive movement to have our most influential endorsements come from a newspaper. I love the Stranger, often they get it right. But when they get it wrong, the consequences can be massive, like in our public schools.

Just another reminder that the primary problem with Seattle law enforcement is that the officers they hire (usually not residents) have a deep and abiding contempt for the city’s residents fed by a steady Fox News diet. And their union chief embodies that.
Mike Solan, SPD guild president, issued a statement openly questioning the validity of the votes for Katie Wilson.

Solan's embrace of the far right & SPD's history of aggression could make a dangerous situation if the national guard is sent to #Seattle.
