THANK YOU ALL for coming out and supporting the 8!!! It’s honestly so surreal how much fun we had today and how amazing it is to know how many people care about this bus as much as I do!
This is amazing.

The momentum to fix the 8 is UNPRECEDENTED!
Sad news for Capitol Hill library enjoyers :(

Just lost power for the 4th time in a year now. Very frustrating but glad I’ve never had to walk my bike upstairs

A Seattle transit goal set in 2015 was for 72% of the city to be a 10 min walk to 10 min frequency transit. We hit that goal in early 2020 and since 2023, have not reported on it.

Today, just 53% of the city is walking distance to frequent transit and with new openings it'll be 55% in 2027

Love Katie's comments about how improving transportation isn't just about shortening commutes, it's about increasing access to new places and improving our lives by creating places where people can come together and enjoy their lives

"We need bread but we need roses too"
"Katie Wilson knows what it's like to wait for a bus that never comes"

Wow.

Cynthia Green, 8-decade resident of Seattle. “In her, we saw the sort of person we need more of, someone with the bravery to risk failure and move with love and justice…’realism’ is the language of people who have grown comfortable with inequity.”

Cannot keep up with her great lines here!

Why is Seattle (and every other municipality) constantly going broke?

Because property tax revenue is not allowed to keep up with inflation! Time to fix this.
Since January 1, 2020, prices for goods, services, and labor have increased by 26%. But over the same period, #waleg has only allowed each jurisdiction’s property tax revenues to grow about 5% to 6%, plus the value of new construction.

It’s time to fix this.

Read my latest for the @inlander.com:
Will 2026 be the year Washington allows municipalities to close their local budget deficits by lifting the property tax cap?
At the end of the year, when local governments are adopting their budgets for the coming year, I tend to get touchy about the way local media outlets report on

The first traffic crash of 2026 in Seattle was reported right at midnight, at Aurora Avenue N and N 125th Street. A driver reportedly hit a utility pole; their injuries are still being assessed.

Absolutely zero indication in station that the light rail is free today. Lucky riders happen to buy their ticket as a transit nerd (me) walked by and told them to skip it

@sound-transit.bsky.social got any signs? hiring for a town crier?

There is still no data showing that Waymo trips are replacing car trips.

If they’re replacing walking, biking, and bus, crashes are going up!
Interesting data (from Waymo) showing that robotaxis are significantly safer than the average human driver. This is likely because they respect traffic rules. An NYT op-ed by a neurosurgeon calls for a broader adoption as a public health measure. Thoughts? www.nytimes.com/2025/12/02/o...

One thing lost in the high infra/housing cost discussion dominated in the lack of *quantity* is that high costs also lead to lower *quality*

European apartments are concrete, better insulated, have *heated floors* AND are cheaper!
Oh my god the upstairs bathroom has heated floors

Metro card is kindov a bad name? Doesn’t it belong in DC?
My take on the MetroCard: iconic name, iconic logo, crap product. My take on OMNY: crap name, crap logo, good product that will only get better.
Doing Metrocard Nostalgia is a great example of the city at its most navel-gazing. It was a flimsy piece of shit that didn’t work 30% of the time that you could fully break if you forgot it in your front pocket. Good riddance, I haven’t touched one in almost half a decade.

It would be good to have more rentals in single family zones and more ownership opportunities in dense areas
A lot of Blueskiers are going to dismiss this observation because of the source, but it is correct. I'll just add that I don't think there's anything special about single-family homes that means they should never be rentals, any more than there's a rule that multifamily units should never be condos.

People respond to incentives
I'm reading through WSDOT's evaluation of its highway work zone speed camera pilot, and this part jumped out at me: they saw I-5 speeds drop just after putting out a trailer and holding media events to discuss future camera usage.

Why does Vancouver BC build high rise condos and Seattle doesn’t?

Because their building code allows towers with *half* as much circulation area! Scissor stairs are a big reason why!
