I really hate it when scientists keep saying that “we need to rebuild trust in science,” because it implies that scientists are to blame for the mistrust rather than the millions of dollars of dark money that have funded political attacks on science in order to advance a far right agenda.

Yeah, my first thought on hearing it's only gonna be there a month and a half was "would you call fucking Oktoberfest a theme park?!"
MrBeast Land is open in Saudi Arabia but not everyone's impressed: "It's like calling a county fair a theme park" https://kotaku.com/beast-land-mrbeast-theme-park-saudi-arabia-2000645495

"sympathy for some of the GOP's voters but contempt for their elected and appointed leaders" is the proper position for dem electeds, and instead we get "sympathy for GOP elected and appointed leaders, but contempt for ~Dem~ voters" it's truly insane fuck all these assholes

A good visualization of what I mean. This isn't one 2:15 minute ad, it's a hundred little scenes, each entirely discrete and detached from each other. There's no continuity both because it can't think, and telling it to keep the number of wheels straight is too much to ask. bsky.app/profile/wapp...

Grey Cup seriously turning the opening coin toss into a pseudomoney ad? Well that sucks.

I'm not trying to be mean, but racists who believe Trump betrayed them by being a child molester are not going to embrace the Democratic Party without forcing that party to embrace racism. And the people gained would in no way make up for those lost.

The stakes for including trans athletes are real and high. Meanwhile, the idea of keeping sports “fair” is transparently a wedge designed to justify the exclusion of people from enriching—even lifesaving—activities. defector.com/what-does-a-...
What Does A Great Trans Athlete Deserve? | Defector
Once every week or two, I swim molasses-slow laps at the YMCA. I’ve been on something of a fitness journey this year, testing out different forms of exercise to see what sticks—what feels the least…

The reason the headline is "doom!" is because when you see what's already been done, you see that we can do more,
which means things can get better,
which means rich people's "it's over, no stopping this, might as well let us do what we want" manipulation might stop working. Can't have that.

Tesla engineer was concerned about known thermal runaway problems in the batteries, elon and his head of security concoted a mass shooter threat pretending to be him, leaked it to the press and got a bolo issued to tried to get him swatted, Elon then stiffed his head of security

I’ve said it before but news outlets worry a lot about looking biased and not enough about looking phony.

Why should people trust you if you won’t say what they can see plain as day?

Images of Donald Trump appearing to close his eyes at an Oval Office announcement this week rocketed around social media this weekend, with the president’s opponents seizing on the footage to raise questions about Trump’s on-the-job performance.

Okay, so, there's a lot of takes going on about this right now. I just want to say that the number is ragebait. The pay is almost all in the form of Tesla stock, and the number they're attaching to it is based on an insane projection of Tesla being worth EIGHT TRILLION DOLLARS by 2034.
JUST IN: Tesla shareholders officially green light a pay package for Elon Musk that could make him the world's first trillionaire.

If you needed more proof that much of the pundit class covered the Harris campaign by listening to what the GOP was saying about it and not listening to campaign itself.
Utterly bizarre to describe climate change policy as some kind of radical-left albatross.

The IRA contained precisely the kind of 'kitchen table' programs everyone says Democrats should focus on — and they're popular!

The problem was that Americans *didn't know* what the IRA was or who passed it.

Like fucking clockwork.

Every 4 months or so a bunch of queer terms are mysteriously blocked in titles and go live notifications, folks make a fuss, and it’s undone quietly after a few days.

It’s almost like they’re testing if this is the mythical time they can finally abandon us as a market.

A really good way for the Democrats to prove that they aren't fundamentally the same as Republicans would be for them to clearly and unambiguously disavow Cuomo over stuff like this, and the fact that they aren't racing to do so should suggest a few things about how wide that gulf really is
So here's Andrew Cuomo reacting to Maria Bartiromo wondering if Mamdani will "change the look of New York" and have Muslim women "completely covered up," telling her that Mamdani "doesn't understand New York culture" because he has "dual citizenship" and "he's a citizen of Uganda."
