If I'm correct it's because Democratic electeds and consultants want to win by default, that is reach a political equilibrium in which the GOP are seen as too extreme to govern, and a plurality of voters have no choice but to elect Democrats. This results in sliding right and taking the temperature.

My statement on the capture of the brutal, illegitimate ruler of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, and need for a transition to democracy:

Trump is immune from all prosecution and yet anyone in the world can be subjected to the jurisdiction of the United States at any moment. If it wasn't already clear, the supposed "rights" of the liberal democratic order concern only the right the dominate at will.

I'll spell it out: Offering that Maduro is bad but the strikes and kidnappings violated legal procedure, is discursively like closing the back door to Trump while opening the front door. You concede the moral case, and offer a legal one that nobody without a lanyard knows of or gives a shit about.
"Maduro was bad, but" shut the fuck up, you people will never learn.

"Maduro is a brutal authoritarian dictator," I wisely intone, as the corrupt demented paedophile US President violating Constitutional Law while operating a gestapo and concentration camps illegally arrests a foreign leader on charges which read like they were written on a paper placemat in crayon.

Whether it's destroying a nation or murdering a Black person, all the US government has to do to quiet 90% of liberals opposition is to say their victim was a bad guy.

For like the 5th straight time the alleged "tankies" are the ones opposing the tanks.

That was the literal pitch: Knock this country over and I will roll over the corpse and let international capital pick it clean. And I will restore respect for the rule of law and human rights – by partnering with Gulf States

Unfortunately for all of us there are likely a non-trivial number of current and former high-profile elected Democrats and think tankers, whose primary frustration will be that it wasn't their team that allegedly captured Maduro.

I'm deeply sorry to the people of Venezuela. There is no opposition party in the United States to counter the fascist regime's actions and the population is easily demagogued.

An administration driven by greed, cruelty, and frankly a sort of empty-hearted boredom. The death of innocents so they can beat their chests and line their already fat wallets.

Whatever comes next has to at least look like justice. We cannot just turn the page for the sake of one party’s comfort.
BREAKING: Venezuela’s government has accused the US of launching attacks on civilian and military installations across several states, rejecting what it described as a "military aggression," according to an official statement.

When I say there is no democracy in this country, this is what I mean. We have no democratic control of *anything* no matter how consequential. We can’t stop a genocide, we can’t impeach a billionaire pedophile, we can’t stop an AI CSAM factory. These are all related.
