one justified doing a history paper on Gary Hart based on the fact that the only secondary source I could find on the guy was a terrible book by the same hack who wrote this article
what the hell is this revisionist nonsense? This *did not happen*—except in the minds of the far-right. You're buying their bad faith bullshit. MAGA called for and now is building a white ethnostate b/c *they are white nationalists*. That's what they do. FFS

This is the president pro tem of Virginia’s state Senate calling out the state’s U.S. senators for not being aggressive enough in countering Republican gerrymandering 😵

(She also turns 82 years old next week!)
I have the utmost respect for Senator Kaine and Senator Warner but we do not need “coaching” on redistricting coming from a cuck chair in the corner. How about you all stay focused on the fascist in the White House and let us handle redistricting in Virginia. 10-1

I wrote a quick blog post in 2014 titled "police reforms you should always oppose." It went viral and became the basis of a chart created by Critical Resistance to evaluate abolitionist steps. Money for training and body cams were the first two on my list.

And also, it’s a terrible mistake to let the state monopolize violence and frame their actions as legitimate but yours as not. Which is not to encourage or push people towards getting hurt, but when you demonize any “violence” on your side, they will use that as justification to punish everyone.

And it’s pretty clear that people think of nonviolent as simply being passive, when nonviolent was a larger umbrella that encompassed agitative demonstrations. A sit-in at a whites only restaurant is nonviolent but it’s not passive. Occupying buildings, cars, etc are all nonviolent.
These aren’t the only two books on the subject and they’re about very specific points of US history but I truly cannot read another take from someone whose idea of Civil Rights protesting begins and ends with an organised march.

Oh we're deciding that the speed with which we left X for Bsky determines our character? I set up a Discord as a life raft before I even had an invite here, I am purer than all of you people.

What Gavin Newsom and Democratic politicians like him are counting on is that when it comes to the primaries, liberal voters will listen to that voice in their head that tells them they have to nominate someone who will appeal to "moderate swing voters." They are not stupid for anticipating this.

Schumer: People call him TACO, but these days it's getting hard to afford one! Can you chip in $5 today to help us hold Mr. Trump accountable for these soft shell economic policies?

there’s stuff circulating about Wikipedia and AI; I’d ask that you dig into this thread before getting concerned.
Sure. AI companies have ALWAYS been training their models on Wikipedia content, which under the free and open access model is available to anyone — including AI companies. Agreements like these require AI companies to limit and offset the strain they place on Wikimedia infrastructure.

Minneapolis is headed towards something resembling a general strike, if you were wondering how the campaign to cow working people into quiescence is going
Last night, The Minneapolis Federation of Educators Local 59 signed on to the call for a Jan 23 shutdown. That brings total labor support to: the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Local 1005, SEIU Local 26, UNITE HERE Local 17, CWA Local 7250, St. Paul Federation of Educators Local 28, and the MFE 59
Unions and community orgs are calling for a Minnesota-wide shutdown in 10 days to protest the ferocious assault by federal immigration agents. They're saying on Jan 23, no work, no school, no shopping. SEIU Local 26, UNITE HERE Local 17, & others are supporting, w/ more to join. By me, Amie Stager

Waltz (and Democrats writ large) have no idea what to do. They don't want to show open resistance for fear of escalation, so their best advice is to just let the Nazis do literal Nazi shit without resistance... which isn't tenable. They offer no actual way out.

These people are such fucking cowards. The Feds are kidnapping and killing people in the streets and Dems keep repeating the same passive bullshit.

Liberals see people getting shipped off to camps and they say “don’t give him what he wants.” Pathetic.
State investigators have been on the scene in North Minneapolis.

I know you’re angry. I’m angry. What Donald Trump wants is violence in the streets.

But Minnesota will remain an island of decency, of justice, of community, and of peace.

Don’t give him what he wants.
