If I'm correct it's because Democratic electeds and consultants want to win by default, that is reach a political equilibrium in which the GOP are seen as too extreme to govern, and a plurality of voters have no choice but to elect Democrats. This results in sliding right and taking the temperature.
every time I see bill simmons face these days he looks like he's on the verge of tears

Compare this to Biden leaving Afghanistan & think about what the incentives are for every American politician
everyone on the tv wants you to know that this is good actually

Folks bypass things like the fact that NYPD activated drones and 30 cop cars for a demonstration of 1000 people in freezing weather today. The levels of surveillance and potential repression are taken as regular order in this country.

didnt get canceled, but would be cool if we got a version of Babylon 5 that didn't need to speedrun season 4 because the network it was on ceased to exist
Name your fav show that was cancelled too soon

we are living through a real reminder of why Harris embracing the Cheneys was a bridge too far for a lot of Democrats who got very yelled at for looking a gift horse in the mouth
Dick Cheney must be jealous as hell from hell right now.

Reading Chotiner interviews with people who actually know what they're talking about is interesting because you realize his main skill is not "gotchas" but just like, facilitating effective communication. when that runs into someone who's used to dissimulating they get humiliated.

on a lighter note, cataloguing all the end credits songs i was exposed to a billion times when i worked at theaters, and the top 3 - in terms of what i liked sweeping to - is uh, something. in no particular order:

bring me to life (evanescence)
whats luv (fat joe and ashanti)
extreme ways (moby)

We all Stan that one Taylor Swift Stan account on Twitter that spent time in jail rather than join the IDF but we can't ask the same of American kids? At least in Israel joining up is mandatory! You literally volunteered for this! You were born as the Iraq war was starting, what did you expect!

If you know that you are only doing it because of intense pressure, and you go so far as to tell your mom about how bad it was, then you should have some courage and self respect and not do it. Otherwise you are a coward.

look man at that point you get yourself arrested

it's not as though "signing up for the military" didnt carry risks, you just thought they'd be mortal rather than moral

One month ago Mark Kelly voted to supply $900 billion to the Trump regime's war machine in exchange for segregation laws for trans people.
Mark Kelly puts out a statement saying "The President of the United States just overthrew a foreign ruler and explained to the American people that this is about taking control of the oil reserves of a foreign nation." This is probably the strongest statement alongside Gallego's I've read.

this is true and I am sorry about your mentions.
Democrat leaders on this platform want you to believe they are the party of resistance while supporting genocide, rubber stamping Trump's nominees, folding on trans rights, using far-right rhetoric about migrants, working with mass surveillance companies, getting mad they weren't in on a coup.

wasn't just him, every single statement opens with this, which merely concedes the point: making trump look strong and them look weak
Chuck Schumer, looking down over his glasses and grinning slightly, "of course we oppose the Maduro regime."

time to convene another inquest over why this guy is unpopular
Starmer asked to respond to Trump breaking international law and seizing the leader of another sovereign nation replies that it is his "responsibility" to have a good relationship with the US President.

"I have stepped up that responsibility [and] I do get on with President Trump," he tells the BBC

Fully at a loss here.
Trump just announces the US will be running Venezuela now, until the can do a "safe, proper, and judicious" transfer of power. Announcing an occupation before you've occupied a country is a new one.
