WATCH: If you REALLY want to understand a BIG reason why cycling [aka riding a bike] is so dangerous in North America, and one of the biggest villains in the origin story of our unsafe status quo, invest some time watching this one, by NOT JUST BIKES (aka @theurbanistagenda.com here). Then share it.

@zohrankmamdani.bsky.social You should consider having a Bike & Pedestrian Commission under DOT similar to what OakDOT had to get some feedback from some of us members of the community who are passionate about public transit, bike and pedestrian infrastructure. 👏🏾🥳🤩

Heartbreaking news. Another person mercilessly killed just trying to cross the street. Parking garages and peds don’t mix. This appears to be dangerous design on the part of DOT, as the article states there is no signage letting drivers know which direction is the wrong way.

The driver, who appears to be a courier, stayed at the scene and is being interviewed by detectives.

This is my main take away from this election. Urbanism and Micromobility are a main consistency in NYC now. We've fully burst through to the mainstream and can deliver for candidates, like we did for Zohran. Politicians and the media might want to take note
The Times parsed the vote using similar categories and again found that the single most determinative factor economic-like factor in the election was "commute by transit" vs "commute by car." It edged out renters vs. homeowners. There's still outstanding data but I expect these trends will hold.

Zohran Mamdani won a historic victory yesterday in New York City's mayoral election, and 17 of our 18 endorsees won their races up and down the ballot, proving once again that safer streets and better public transit aren't just good policy – they're good politics! www.streetspac.org/2025_general...

Drivers in a nutshell. They carry this same entitlement to City Council and to Community Boards in NYC. Even my dad is like this except that he supports walkability and bike lanes and urbanism. youtu.be/mwPSIb3kt_4?...

I think we in the Urbanist Community should read or listen to chapter 7 of Dan Wangs Book Breakneck. It talks about the fact that most of great works we benefit from today in NYC essentially stopped after Robert Moses. We need to consider this going forward.

This is great. And making the bike lanes around the park wide and two-way would really help get some transportation cyclists out of the park. It's also just the right thing to do.
I am quoted in this article.

"A cycle track around the park would get a ton of use and it’s going to take pressure off of Central Park," said Chris Sanders. "That would solve like 99 percent of whatever the perceived problem is for Central Park itself."

Flexposts are good to quickly mark a bike lane & have the advantage of being adjustable if the initial alignment doesn't work but should be replaced by something more solid after the lane is judged effective. Most flexposts in Boston have been in place for way too long. www.wbur.org/news/2025/10...
Why Boston is moving away from flexposts to a new type of bike lane barrier
Boston has begun swapping out the thin, flexible bollards with "cast-in-place concrete" bike lane barriers that sit on top of the road.

@zohrankmamdani.bsky.social if you havent met him already, I really think you should chat with Dan Wang. He wrote this

“…Americans do have to choose between poorly governed cities or car dependent suburbs”

while lamenting the lack of community in the car dependent suburbs in his book ‘Breakneck’.
