When Charlie Kirk, a commentator who stirred up hatred and prejudice was killed, the Trump government led a purge against anyone who commented on it in a way they didn’t like. When a beloved director & actor is brutally murdered, Trump mocks and criticises him just hours later. Revolting hypocrisy.

Rob Reiner represented the best of America, while Donald Trump represents the worst.

There’s no point having contempt for this senile sociopath any longer - it should instead be directed at the cringingly sycophantic support network that keeps this mouldering corpse of a presidency the wrong side of impeachment.
Trump doubles down on his Rob Reiner attack: "I wasn't a fan of his at all. He was a deranged person... He became like a deranged person, Trump Derangement Syndrome. So I was not a fan of Rob Reiner at all in any way, shape or form. I thought he was very bad for our country."

I was interested to see how Fauxnews covered Trump's disgraceful comments on Reiner. Silly me, although they found space to report heartfelt comments from the Clintons, Obama, Pelosi and Harris, somehow the current president's hateful remarks just weren't newsworthy.

There was that time Janette Krankie battered Jack Reacher.
No idea what telly Lord Sewell is watching, because I can't think of a single show with this plotline let alone it being something that is inescapable for young white men who subsequently now face a crisis of masculinity drawing them to the far right?? 🙃

ICE and CBP, among others, have violently retaliated against ICE Watch in part because the agencies correctly understand what many do not: Organized neighbors are mounting an effective defense, and an organized movement is a formidable adversary. My new feature: newrepublic.com/article/2042...
Inside Chicago’s Neighborhood ICE Resistance
Residents have organized a formidable network to protect immigrant communities from Trump’s brutal deportation program. Their efforts are making a genuine difference.

Monday’s got off to a great start with news that Tommy Robinson is suing Nigel Farage 🤣😂👌🏼

This is definitely a case of “may it be brutal, painful, drawn out, eye wateringly expensive and neither man win” 🍿🍿🍺😄
Tommy Robinson takes legal action against Nigel Farage over 'defamatory claims'
A far-right fall-out, you say? Tommy Robinson is pursuing a legal settlement from Nigel Farage following comments made in January.

If the New York Times was waiting for a news hook to write a long-overdue story about how Trump is mentally unfit to be president, Trump has provided one today with his post saying Rob Reiner got murdered because he was mean to Trump.
Write it, NYT. End the normalization. @nytimes.com

If I were a journalist with access to the president of America, I might ask, say, why he's publicly implying that his supporters just stabbed a man & woman to death in their homes for criticising him. If, that is, he can remember that he did that by teatime.

I was devastated to hear about the loss of Rob Reiner and Michele Singer. Rob is a generational talent that used his voice to advocate for a better world. We live in a better country because of them. They will be missed.

- 95% of respondents want AI companies to pay for their training data (made up of 88% saying strengthen copyright law, & 7% saying leave it as is)

At the risk of taking this more seriously than it should be, the idea that Twitter/X has ever been a place where the dangerous parts of the right stood ready to have a good-faith conversation on the merits of an issue is something of a stretch. You don’t deprogram Nazis on wasteland behind a pub.
IMO it's hard to combat the dangerousness of the right by participating in a platform where they aren't present.
I think the best way to explain the X vs Bluesky preference is whether a person thinks the left is more annoying than the right is dangerous.

The reason so many Noah Smiths end up on the X side of that equation is that while the left annoys them personally, the right mostly endangers other people.
