The reaction to this story and Michael’s thread is a prime example of how social media makes people coldhearted assholes
This is going to trigger another round of abuse for this woman but the basic facts appear to be that she was separated at the time and so was the CEO. She recoiled on the jumbotron because her husband was attending the same concert.
At a Coldplay concert in July, Kristin Cabot appeared on the Jumbotron in the arms of her boss. Cabot retreated, trying to make things right with the people who mattered most. Now, for first time since that viral moment, Cabot is sharing her side of the story. trib.al/I8tWdU4

this feels like a minor harbinger of how things will play out after It Happens
I knew Charlie Kirk’s assassination would have an impact on the conservative movement, but even I underestimated the impact it would have.

It has torn people apart and the biggest impact is at the grassroots level.

I think a big part of our eventual healing after all this is over will be Democratic leaders and public figures talking very bluntly about what a dumb piece of shit Trump is/was.

Hi Senator, excuse me for jumping in, but... while I agree with you that this is really damaging, I couldn't help but notice YOU VOTED FOR THE FREAKING BILL THAT GAVE TRUMP THIS POWER (which some of us warned you not to do).

i have been thinking a bit about how any political program that requires the premise of “america bad” is a dead end

There will come a time when people of good faith are empowered to uphold the law.

When that time comes, Illinois will have the testimony and records needed to pursue justice to its fullest extent.

The truth of what Trump and his masked agents are doing in Chicago will be told.
"They had done nothing wrong. They were not protesting. They were not chasing ICE vehicles. They were simply shopping."

Matt DeMateo recounts how three U.S. citizens, including a toddler, were tear gassed in Cicero by federal agents.

I think it's good to keep getting mad about evil and unjust things, if only to remind yourself and everyone else that these things are in fact evil and unjust. I don't think it's naive. Nor is it wise and sophisticated to adopt a "You fool, nothing matters and nothing good can ever happen" posture

i believe that david brooks may not have specifically vetted everyone he ended up at some business event in 2011 and been photographed with.

him + the nyt should have vetted this and disclosed the connection before he started publishing "nothing to see here" articles. this fucking stinks
NYT statement to me: "David Brooks regularly attends events to speak with noted and important business leaders to inform his columns, which is exactly what happened at this 2011 event. Mr. Brooks had no contact with him before or after this single attendance at a widely-attended dinner."

The name "Popular Science" doesn't mean we shift our coverage depending on public opinion. It means we cover relevant subjects that are rigorously researched, reliable, and grounded in reality.

And trans lives are grounded in reality.

We see y'all. No matter what.

First-of-a-kind study shows encouraging data for trans kids who socially transition
Ninety-four percent of participants in a new study stood firm in their trans identity after five years, and "detransitioning" is rare.

almost nobody is willing to update their priors, but when your entire brand is "we are only following where the data leads us" and then you refuse to change your views when the data doesn't back you up that sort of gives the game away
matt & co’s theory of how public opinion on immigration would respond to new information was simply empirically wrong.
at this point the only reasonable conclusion is they refuse to update their priors w/ new data because the data is inconvenient for them

There is no way to escape right-wing views in America. They're relentlessly promoted by wingnut billionaires who own both the legacy and social media.
i know what conservatives think, its the whole reason i have zero respect for them
CNN has a show with a similar line. That the problem with this country is we just aren’t talking to each other.

It’s the kind of diagnosis that a toddler would land on.

Any Democrat who thinks it's appropriate to "find common ground" with the Republicans on issues like high school sports teams is negotiating with a political party that does not believe trans people should exist. This policy will kill people, so maybe stop wringing your hands about volleyball.

it's just really not categorically different

he doesn’t and the most likely outcome of this is that it doesn’t happen
