Look I know this is going to be hard here but rigid adherence to lies about Covid is going to push you to the right. It has to. The eugenicist ideas that we can abandon the vulnerable and that vaccine mandates and lockdowns weren’t necessary because only “those people” died can never be democratic.
NEW: This week, Daily Show host Jon Stewart introduced his audience to Jenin Younes, describing her as a courageous civil rights attorney who had been canceled by both the right and left and therefore “must be doing something right.”

Really, she spent years undermining public health—and Democrats.
Jon Stewart Praises Attorney Behind Years of Anti-Vaccine and Anti-Lockdown Lawfare
“You’re a civil rights attorney who has been canceled by both the right and the left, which means you must be doing something right.”

World Health Network was featured in The Guardian as experts urge the WHO to update global guidance: surgical masks are inadequate, and respirators should be standard protection in healthcare settings.

Evidence-based public health matters.

Spike started out as a villain but his charisma, popularity, and sex appeal were so undeniable that he was folded into the main cast, like Grimace.

gosh, I wonder if there's a clear and obvious progression from "fascists targeting 6th graders playing volleyball" to "fascists putting people in camps and killing them in the streets" that we have witnessed over and over again, making pushback back on the former essential to preventing the latter

the thing is, universal human rights are only universal if they include everyone, even the groups of people society has decided are less important (children, prisoners, people with names you can't pronounce, homeless people, the unemployed, disabled people who don't make good inspiration porn, etc)

"human rights but only for people on my side" isn't revolutionary no matter what side you're on, you've just reinvented fascism from first principles

A big part of the current right wing belief system is that everyone is actually just as bigoted as they are, and are only pretending not to be as a public performance ("virtue signalling").

They genuinely thought once they started doing open racism, everyone would join in

No, you don't get it. Labubus are aware of hell, and they are spiritually bound for hell, but they don't actually go there; on death, their consciousness simply ceases. Many view this as a mercy, but the labubus themselves deeply resent it.

Trump once again in the process of doing astounding damage to international relations in exchange for absolutely nothing
Looks like the EU-US trade deal is now dead, with all three major groups in the EU Parliament calling at least for suspension. The downward spiral has already begun.

Once again, Samwise The Brave had me in tears at the end of Two Towers.
Every time I lose hope in the world, I re-read and re-watch The Lord of the Rings trilogy.

I saw the extended version of Fellowship tonight in theatres (10th time watching Fellowship in theatres) and it was like a balm for my soul, an elixir for my weary heart.

Tomorrow: The Two Towers.

“Corey was my baby. A mother is not supposed to bury her child,” Alicia Stingley told the judge.

But she also spoke of the grace of forgiveness.

After the hearing, she hugged one of the men who pleaded guilty in the killing of her son.

I wonder how long it will take the media to catch on to the fact that ICE’s recruiting spree has effectively deputized every white supremacist hate group out there.

thread about X’s new TOS. tldr is musk can now sue users for any reason in a TX court he basically owns, so he’ll almost certainly win. and this is a platform politicians and journalists largely refuse to leave.
Conservative influencer Ashley St Clair had a baby with Elon Musk in 2024. Things turned sour when she expressed mild support of trans rights. Elon cut child support and sued for custody; his followers made deepfake porn of her on X; she sued X; now X is suing HER!

But this isn’t just a soap opera:

I’m sorry but what we’re not gonna do is sanitize traditional conservatism which, in practice in the US, believes women should be forced to give birth to their rapist’s child, that gay people are a scourge who deserve to die of AIDS, and that corporations should exist without any regulation.
