I'm starting a great new job in two weeks, HUZZAH! But I don't get paid until 2 weeks after I start, and I have weekly expenses I'm going to need a hand with. Spare a coin to get me over this speed bump? If you, like I have no coin, shares also appreciated!

my partner reading a sex scene I wrote more than a year ago and deciding they were going to reenact it with me might be the first ever time that being a writer has gotten me laid

we deserve better than a spineless, unprincipled centre with no animating convictions and no vision of a future where tomorrow is better than today. if the ALP wants to take a lesson from whitlam, it should be this: their future is not guaranteed.
maybe they should start acting like it.

like the US democrats, the ALP have built an identity around not being the liberal party (and in recent years, even that has started to fray). but unlike in the US, the ALP vote isn't guaranteed under a broken two-party system. we can and should drive them either to the left or out of office.

the absolute gall of the modern-day ALP to claim the legacy of a man whose revolutionary social policies they've spent the intervening decades helping to dismantle. medicare, arts funding, migration, education, housing - not one whitlam achievement has escaped decades of liberalism unscathed.

on this, the 50th anniversary of the whitlam dismissal, it bears mentioning that the present-day labor party is far, far closer politically to the party of fraser than the party of whitlam - and honestly, that comparison does disservice to the party of fraser.

this weekend was my fifth anniversary with my partner, alex. we booked a mini-staycation at a local hotel, where we watched TV and ate lots of junk food. it was perfect.
bonus: they actually got my name and title right!

the songs were good and all, but the best and most iconic moment of this oasis concert was when the gallagher brothers hugged and were not immediately drowned out by the trumpeters of the apocalypse

so thrilled to be living through large-scale real-time reenactments of every social and political scandal and disaster I ever read about in history class
Under new head of Paramount David Ellison, the studio has drawn up a list of actors who opposed the Gaza genocide and will not allow them to appear in its films and TV shows.
Does this sound familiar?
Also, "Ellison is reportedly aiming to take over Warner Bros. next."

Paramount Has Blacklist for Stars Deemed “Overtly Antisemitic” — World of Reel
It sure looks like the likes of Javier Bardem, Joaquin Phoenix, Emma Stone, and Mark Ruffalo won’t be making movies for Paramount in the foreseeable future.

[food, eating] my best friend took ryan and me to this diner in haberfield for brunch and I ate so much I'm amazed that I was able to leave under my own power. I feel like I could sleep for a year. best feeling, totally worth it 😎

white people love to excuse the violent transphobia of their decrepit relatives as a reflection of their upbringing or education, but if my 89yo conservative muslim turkish grandmother can be fucking normal around me, what's your shitty great-aunt mildred's excuse

ah yes, landlords, a class of people famously very cool and normal about tenant rights and welfare
American friend, her husband active US military based in Australia now. Getting no pay, expected to work & if he takes ANY time its a mark on his record, grounds for dismissal. They had an email telling them to ask Aust. landlords for delay paying rent, Aussie’s flabbergasted at the treatment.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum was groped Tuesday by a man on the street who kissed her neck and touched her chest.
“If they do this to the president," she said, "what must happen to all the young women women?"
She's calling for new measures to end harassment

Call for sources who travelled for gender-affirming surgery!
I'm doing research for an article about post-op care for folks who have travelled for gender-affirming surgery, and I would love to include the perspective of some other trans folks beside myself. (I travelled out of state but recovered there for 2 weeks after.)
