Any political “leader” still selling the obviously false choice between #ClimateAction and “the economy” is just reminding us that they clearly don’t understand either the climate crisis OR the economy.

Or they’re cynically hope that WE don’t understand the difference.

Or both.

This point rarely filters out through the fog of fossil fuel propaganda. (Also, green energy is nearly FREE after installation costs.)

Why is fossil fuel propaganda allowed? It is literally killing our planet.

We HAVE TO stop the system that allows politicans to be paid off by big-money interests.

I don't think I've heard any single Government minister say anything of the nature of this from Brown in '97. (With the obvious exception of Ed Milliband).

If growth is not compatible with quality of life rather than just "abundance" or accumulation for the few then it is a destructive force.
Ironically, one of the first things that the Major administration did to attempt to restore its credibility after Black Wednesday was to implement the fuel price duty escalator both to raise revenue and to reduce emissions. In 1997 Brown said. All now seemingly forgotten.

Born on this day in 1819, George Eliot. Here's my favourite bit from the greatest English novel - Eliot's concluding paean to Middlemarch's heroine, Dorothea (who, among other things worked to improve the housing of the local agricultural labourers). Here's to all the Dorotheas, past and present.

Hi media types, three urgent questions for Farage.

Who introduced Nathan Gill to Russia?

Will you condemn your friend Trumps call for political killings?
Will you condemn your friend Trumps continued obstruction of Epstein Pedophilia files in which he is implicated?

its not hard🤷‍♀️

I suspect that radical honesty - with clear, consistent communication - about the consequences of not broadening the tax base would not be liked but would be accepted.

The moment for that was July 2024 - preferably having not put impossible red lines in the manifesto.

Now is the next best time.

Is it time to move beyond the ‘just transition’?

As Emily Ghosh explains, we can’t solve the climate crisis by just switching our energy source. Climate change is driven by concentrated power and global inequities.

We need transformation, not transition.

Net migration is now basically at a sensible level for the UK given our labour market needs.

But the politics is still as if we were at 2023 levels.

And it's falling fast still. We are very likely overcompensating.

Fifteen years of ideological choices to strangle & gut the public realm - NHS to schools to social services to local museums - is what underlies the anger "tearing our country apart"; immigration is simply the scapegoat that the far right are pushing people toward.
Why can't Labour just say this?

Starmer’s anti-asylum policies show how utterly clueless he is about the right-wing media’s role in politics.

He’s trying to fix a “problem” contrived by Farage, GB News and The Telegraph. He’ll never win, because ultimately he’s fighting a ghost – he’s fighting something that doesn’t really exist

The most insanely frustrating thing about the #ClimateCrisis is how the breakthrough we so clearly need isn’t technological. It’s just a collective willingness, a determination even, to change in ways that would clearly be SO MUCH BETTER than the clear and obvious consequences of NOT changing.

There's a roundabout in Cork where even during the worst traffic, drivers unfailingly allow others to merge in a "zip" by local custom. Driving through it restores my faith in society, every time.

I just found out it's known as the "soundabout", and that's just wonderful.
