I have Grandkids - so no longer use Airport Departure Lounges.
Natural History has been the unbroken story of my life.
Watching wildlife, mostly under Dorset skies.
Wrens; Greenfinches; Little Owls; Raptors & Adders are a preoccupation.

Well worth a listen:
"Sometimes a wild god comes to the table.
He is awkward and does not know the ways
Of porcelain, of fork and mustard and silver"

Tackling wildlife crime means tackling organised crime❗

Wildlife crime offenders are involved in other serious crimes:
💥 59% linked to violence
💰 58% linked to theft or criminal damage
🐇 For poaching and hare coursing, that rises to over 70%
🚨 27% have links to domestic violence

What you’re witnessing is a populist assault on the BBC.

This is not an institutional scandal in any meaningful sense of the word. It is an attack on public service broadcasting.

Well Alan, following on from my post of yesterday, you don't see many images like this on a Google search.
Little Owls mating. This happened outside of my living room window.
I've heard the calls & chatter that lead up to this point, but never caught in on camera before.

A male Little Owl standing on a post and taking a shower.
There had been a long period of drought and as soon as the rain started, the owl knew what to do.
It was a midsummer night just before dawn - the first Blackbird began the dawn chorus.

1/2 The first "territorial" Fieldfare has just arrived.
At the moment, the bird is attempting to guard a large area around the garden. It's extremely watchful & will drive-off any birds of the wider Thrush family from the available food sources here.
It will remain aloof from the large roving flocks

The last of the Autumn lamps.
The garden sprites will soon have to retire to their beds well before Evan Davies takes to the airwaves, on a school night.

The Fall to the fore & in the background, the evergreens hold their needles.
What a great Beech leaf season it's been.

Live(ish), from a Dorset lane just now - Skylarks singing high in the firmament.
Not sure if the phone has picked them up.

This female Wren was keen to collect as much nesting material as possible at each visit.
Her beak was so full and her forward vision so impaired, that you thought take-off might be extremely ill-advised....
Nest-lining was finished in record time, despite the H&S issues.

Viburnum leaf

As autumn progresses, viburnum leaves take on firey shades of orange and red. Here’s one from a walk I took today with @saocousins.bsky.social

1/3 The dustbin lid down in the thicket has now returned to normal.
Fortunately the hounds didn't enter the #Weedypond where they would surely have punctured the liner & ruined an environment that's taken 10 years to develop.
