Oh, I'm still working on that game jam. It's like....80% done now? Just gotta get content up and running. Blocks disappear, enemies despawn - I just need to hook it all into a gameloop.

Like, it's legit. A Kickstarter-funded attempt at an online-only eSports focused platform fighter that went live 13 years ago, with Icons lauch being 9 years ago. I had the hardest time even finding anything about this, it's mostly been forgotten nowadays.

Okay, so I've been seeing that AsumSaus #SmashBros Icons: Combat Arena video "How (not) to clone a classic" making the rounds.

Yeah sure, Icons was pretty infamous, but it actually reminded me of an earlier attempt at the same thing from 4 (!!!) years before that.

If I disappear for another few weeks it's because the official bsky platform started asking for verification PII and I had to find an unofficial client that I liked lol

Share your knowledge if/when you can. Teaching other people how to do what you do doesn’t lessen your art - it just means more and better art for everyone.

I appreciate when people are willing to tell me about their brushes, how they study, etc… I want to put that back out into the world.

Hey! Yeah so this Metroidvania grew out of a game jam we did a long while back. I was involved in just about every animated character you see in this game! EXTRA for enemies, I animated 100% of every enemy in the game, including the bosses!

I mean, how much do you want to dig down? Artist can involve animation, tech art, vfx, environments, characters, concepting, rigging, and that doesn't even cover the 2d/3d split.

Dev is also not just code, that's producers, tools, gameplay, UX/UI, sound implementation, graphics....
