Hmm. Has anyone actually been able to view this video? I haven't been able to actually watch it at all.

Here, try a repost

Because I simply can't stop, I also did a game jam this weekend.

(More like I signed up for suff and forgot they were all close lol)

The theme was "mundane" so we made a game about cleaning up leaf piles. But also if those piles fought back.

I also just finished Swordtember, an art challenge where you make 1 sword-related artpiece a day!

This year I made a brand new FULLY RIGGED 3d character every day for 30 days!

These are the kinds of shenanigans I like to get up to.

Thanks for hosting Davis!

I'm Spex, 3d generalist/tech artist and hobby gamedev who likes to branch out into whatever seems interesting.

I have a few games I'm working on, and I post about game jams a lot - but you'll mostly see me posting bright low/midpoly 3d art and the occasional 3d print!

And of course, I've got stills for detail.

I really really like this one. As the seasons got colder it got much easier to do the designs.

This one is absolutely wrapped up - I think it's a cute look.

Swordnik 30: Winter

I DID IT

30 fully rigged animated characters in 30 days

Incredibly proud. But also. Next year I am going to do ✨less✨

This was a lot. 😂

Looking forward doing gamedev again instead of Blender every day.

These seasons get easier when they're ones I like. I don't have much to say about Spring or Summer other than they make me appreciate Autumn and Winter even more lol

Also shoutouts to my backyard for providing leaf piles to take pictures of. Gotta get those scrolling textures from somewhere.

Swordnik 29: Autumn

Closing in on the end! One more!

This guy is stereotypical Autumn - and by Autumn I just straight up mean Halloween.

He's got some kind of leaf-powered portal. You probably don't wanna go in there.

And the stills. Really really wanted to stick with something simpler today.

Swordnik 28: Summer

Today's was super simple. Just a summer sun going for a stroll.

I'm super happy with how the end result ended up but all the concepts I started with sure didn't make it 😂

#Swordtember2025:

Swordnik 27: Spring

This design absolutely fought me every step of the process. Sometimes you gotta just grit through with discipline when the art block hits haha.

And speaking of detaching and posing, here are some poses for detail. I really love how detailed everything ended up.

Swordnik 26: Harpy

Really REALLY happy with this design! Even rigged the sword with a toggle so it can be detached and posed with.

I think my favorite bits are the sailfins on the tail and the hair.

And the bubbles too, of course. Those were fun.

And the coral on the sword?

Actually, I'm just gonna count the whole thing.

Swordnik 25: Bubble

A mermaid. Did less with more and simplified the animations to focus in on making an array of looping bubbles.

This guy's design also makes more sense when it's not moving. His arms aren't real, they're some kind of artifact.

Swordnik 24: Venom

I sure did think that animating a snake would be easier than animating legs for some reason 😅

I do love how this Snake man's arms are pretty much magic bundles of coil instead of anything real though, that part was fun.

And I've got some stills here as well. Got to really upgrade the feathers with some pepper spackle and better coloration along with some painted overlay on the repeated texture for the face for a more accurate Barn Owl.

Really just channeling Nathan Drake here.

Swordnik 23: Owl

Even more wings! Since I had the wing setup already in place, I went for a longer animation and some set dressing.

This owlman is based on my favorite: a Barn Owl! Just him and a machete against the, uh, desert. And whatever's buried there.

I feel like today's #Swordtember2025 design looks better in stills since it's very busy in motion. So here's a post to show that off some.

The only way I could get feathers at all was using repeating textures, so I'm glad that gambit paid off.

She seems pretty regal tbh. Wonder what her deal is?

#Swordtember2025

Swordnik 22: Swan

This prompt involves wings and feathers and therefore is THE WORST. On the other hand tho I managed to make something that works so I'm pretty proud. Made that feather texture today too.

Lots of texture displacement carrying the design today.

And some stills to show off her outfit and the other details about her.
This design evolved a bunch as I finished it. Originally some kind of belly dancer before I decided that SPACE was way cooler, which is where the gas giant as her torso came from. The wind on her legs reference harem pants.

#Swordtember2025

Swordnik 21: Ring

Two particular rings I like are Orbital Rings and Chakrams, so this design combines ✨BOTH✨

Also, figuring out how to rig a chakram to be animated was fun.

Thanks!!

Yeah surprisingly the head stuff is ✨also✨ just scrolling textures! I took a cylinder and twisted the whole thing to make the scrolling also twist, then rigged it to some jiggle bones to make some "fake" cloth sim.

It's scrolling textures all the way down haha
