If you expect people to work in office for a job, even on a hybrid basis, you should be required to list the address of that office in the job description.

It should be illegal to call your gamedev studio (singular) anything like [something] "studios".

It is a lie. You are ONE singular studio. You are not STUDIOS.

When you absorb or create a second studio, then we can talk.

Just updating our data now that January has come to a close. So far We've tracked almost 3K people known to have been hit by games industry layoffs this year in 23 known waves (Half of the total waves seen in 2022) January 2026 was definitely one of the worst months we've tracked to date.

I've been reminded about the culture some american cities have about saving parking spots, particularly in winter months with snow, and as someone from a snowy country, I'll never get over how bonkers that really is. You won't catch any of that in Canada.

Its okay to judge people for the choices they make and the actions they take. That's exactly what you should be judging them on.

Has any sicko artist made Sino-Canadian yaoi brotherhood poster art yet, to commemorate our burgeoning relationship?

Surely one of you has.

Reddit sent me a new friend. They're a little worn out from travel, as you can see, but I'm sure they'll perk up in no time.

Let me revisit this with next steps and positivity for a moment.

Its great that the broader trends are being discussed finally, and that its gone beyond passing mentions in niche industry outlets. Hitting Variety for example is a big deal. If we're open about it we can then move towards solutions.
This looks bad, right? But here is the thing... ITS WORSE

This survey only reached a narrow selection of respondents. Notably cut anybody who has been unemployed for too long. Mostly just ppl who can afford to attend GDC. Many laid off before 2025 are still looking!

That person who is on your side on paper but not acting accordingly might not actually be on your side. Sooner recognition of that means you can sooner stop trying to convince them to help you, and move on to actual solutions.

Sometimes I think about the 2018 Toronto mayoral election. There was an openly Nazi candidate running. They got 3.4% of the popular vote. I interpret that as 3.4% of Torontonians openly backing a Nazi. So chances are if I'm on a full bus, I'm on the bus with at least one Nazi.
Nazi on the TTC this morning.

If you are invited to give a talk at a for-profit professional event, those profits should contribute to your travel expenses and per diem to cover food. Not all events have deep pockets but those who do should reach into them for you if they want your labor.

This is grim.

Please Gamedevs, take more breaks. Set boundaries. You're no good to anybody when you're crunching.

If you are correct late, its good that you're eventually correct and i won't take that away from you.

That doesn't mean we won't have a conversation about why it took so long to get there.

Many of you might be interested in organizing LUNCH at work.

LUNCH is actually a lot easier than you may think. You can in fact do it right now, especially if you find yourself suddenly having fewer coworkers to invite out to LUNCH.

Others who have gone for LUNCH are very happy to advise
