29 years ago today, Homer Simpson had an epic chili pepper-induced hallucination. “El Viaje Misterioso de Nuestro Jomer” first aired January 5, 1997.

Most of the sequence was animated completely by David Silverman as he wanted it to look exactly as he had imagined it.

wildcard spot on my 2026 bingo card is the hardware shortage completely eradicating the AAA industry for going all in on unreal engine and not being able to produce games that run on affordable hardware

Funland rocks and this thread shows why!
Between returning, going monthly and all that *going well* you could argue it's been a notable year for FUNLAND zine.

Before we start recounting some of the greatest hits since August, let's drop the plug up top given it's your LAST DAY to hop on the CATCH-UP SALE BUNDLE:

All of this is bad: AI models are often trained on images of children, AI is used disproportionately against women, X is generally a cesspool, etc.

Elon Musk of all people has not shown any indication that he remotely cares about any of this, and has even Groked himself into a bikini.
Grok's AI CSAM Shitshow
We are experiencing world events like the kidnapping of Maduro through the lens of the most depraved AI you can imagine.

Love to make it through the entire winter break unscathed by flu or child-borne illnesses only to wake up on the final day of vacation projectile vomiting 🤮

For all that the media has spent years freaking out about what social media does to our brains, I don’t understand why there appears to be little effort to grapple with the fact that these chatbots are, for some not insignificant portion of the population, literally psychosis machines

You don't have to listen to these professional liars who are barely trying. 9 months ago they were saying they were powerless to return a man they illegally sent to an El Salvador gulag because it would violate that country's national sovereignty
Vance pushes back and says this was not illegal, arguing "Maduro has multiple indictments in the United States for narcoterrorism. You don't get to avoid justice for drug trafficking in the United States because you live in a palace in Caracas."

“Overthrowing a dictator sounds morally right. No one mourns a tyrant. But international law wasn't built to protect the good, but to restrain the powerful… …if each country decides whom to ‘liberate’ by force, the world reverts to the law of the strongest.”
Best thing I’ve read this morning, from a human rights lawyer in Mexico. Translation is in the ALT-text.

I kind of understand the urge to include some qualifying statement about Maduro's fitness for leadership but it's simply not relevant, and adding one has the effect of equivocating on regime change when "done the right way"
